Full Job Description

About this Role

Gamesight is looking for a strategic, detail-oriented Controller with a record of managing both the delivery of financial reports, the creation of forecasts, and tax compliance to meet our growing financial requirements. You will manage the day-to-day operations of our finance function, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. You will collaborate with all teams across the business, developing processes and controls for efficiency, accuracy, and completeness of financial information reported to management and external parties.

This is a hands-on role, not a review-and-approve seat. We need someone who communicates clearly, digs into process problems, and is willing to do the technical accounting work themselves, not just sign off on it.

Our ideal candidate will see the opportunity to help the broader organization adopt a set of standard financial processes and goals as a tremendous contribution to Gamesight's success. Using The Office's accounting department as a reference point - we're looking for someone with Angela's attention to detail, Oscar's problem-solving skills, and Kevin's enthusiasm. You don't have to love cats or chili, but you're a great fit if you love video games! The pay range for this position is $110,000 to $140,000 USD annually, depending on experience.

What you'll do:
  • Oversee the accuracy and timeliness of AR, AP, and balance sheet reconciliations performed by the accounting team.
  • Own advanced and technical accounting: payroll and benefits journal entries, revenue recognition, cost of revenue, stock comp expense.
  • Manage month-end close and own the preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Own payroll administration, processing semi-monthly payroll for W-2 employees nationwide, non-US based employees, and international contractors.
  • Own the calculation of quarterly sales commissions and other individual variable compensation.
  • FP&A: Create annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, and produce monthly budget-to-actuals and variance analysis for leadership on an ongoing basis.
  • Cash management, cash flow reporting, analysis, and forecasting.
  • Field all internal financial queries and contribute to our ongoing assessment of the financial health and direction of the company.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex customer and vendor billing issues, and provide guidance to the team on navigating difficult business decisions.
  • Bring our financial statements into compliance with GAAP, and research and document accounting policies on complex emerging matters.
  • Ensure the general ledger and accounting systems (chart of accounts and all dimensions) are designed and maintained to capture and report financial data accurately and consistent with GAAP.
  • Maintain and continuously improve our accounting system integrations (QBO, Rippling, Tipalti, Brex) to ensure they run efficiently and accurately.
  • Partner with the Head of People & Operations to maintain our HRIS (Rippling), ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and administer benefits.
  • Oversee preparation of quarterly and annual federal and state income tax returns and other tax compliance filings, and coordinate all tax research/projects.
Who you'll work with:
  • You'll join a small, hard-working team of four, including the CFO, where your work directly shapes the accuracy and health of our financials.
  • Expect to sit with the CEO to understand our organization, business model, and some of our quirks (that need to be un-quirked).
  • Work with the CRO to resolve billing and invoicing escalations and help build accurate sales forecasts based on accounting data.
  • Partner with the Director of Operations to maintain our HRIS, ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and administer payroll.
  • Collaborate with other team members on the sales, campaigns, and creator program teams to process customer, creator, and partner contracts, invoices, etc.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA and minimum 2-5 years of Controller experience required (public company experience preferred, not required). βž—
  • Be located in and primarily work from either the Pacific or Mountain Time Zones. ⏰
  • Prior experience in finance at a SaaS organization - bonus points for previous start-up experience! πŸ†™
  • History of scaling and process improvement for finance and accounting operations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. πŸ•΅
  • Fantastic communication skills, both written and verbal. πŸ’¬

  • Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
  • Willingness and flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential information. πŸ”
  • Love of video games, tabletop games, the gaming industry, and/or content creation!
Nice to Haves:
  • Prior audit experience at a Big 4 or national accounting firm.
  • Experience with multi-state and international payroll/contractor compliance (given the cross-border headcount).
  • SaaS/subscription revenue recognition (ASC 606) experience.
  • Familiarity with Rippling, QuickBooks Online, Brex, or Tipalti specifically.
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior accounting staff.
  • Prior exposure to gaming, media, or creator-economy business models.
