Job Statement
The Financial Controller directs the accounting and financial functions of Canada Pump and Power (CPP). The Financial Controller supervises the accounting department, maintains the financial systems and backup/filing systems. The Controller is responsible for the timely, accurate and complete preparation of all financial data including the year-end external accountant review.
Essential Function (Duties & Responsibilities)
Ensure Administrative Personnel follow company processes and company Safe Work Policies, Procedures and Practices.
Ensure Administrative Personnel work within Company, Customer, and other existing standards and regulations pertaining to their scope of work.
Develop and implement accounting policies, coordination of systems and procedures, and the preparation of operating data and special reports including interim and year-end financial statements; maintain the company's system of accounts and keeps books and records on all Company transactions and assets.
Compare performance with operating plans and standards; report and interpret the result of Operations to all levels of Management.
Provide for the control and editing of all sales orders to ensure conformity to established Safe Work Policies and Procedures, and to facilitate data control and retrieval of records generated by these orders.
Supervise and coordinate the preparation of the reports to government agencies.
Provide other Managers and departments with financial information required by them to carry out their assigned responsibilities.
Trains and manages accountants and other administrative staff
Review all credit or financing requests, process information, perform credit investigations, and approve/disapprove credit with any related terms, conditions or limits; authorize purchase orders accordingly.
Review status of aged and delinquent accounts with Accounting on a weekly basis; supervise preparation and transmitting of letters and notices on delinquent accounts; determine and recommend new repayment terms.
Review and recommend to the Chief Executive Officer accounts to be charged-off, prepare applicable reports, and notify the credit bureau.
Oversee the granting of credit and collection of accounts due to the company.
Maintain the general ledger and all related accounts with proper documentation and records of all company transactions; review entries to the ledgers to assure accuracy and compliance with the company's policies and established accounting principles; control all changes to the chart of accounts. Responsible for monthly and year end closing of the general ledger including preparation of journal entries.
Maintain the computerized accounting system (Sage), back-up control, assisting other accounting staff with questions and reporting and analysis.
Administer preparation of interim, year-end, and comparative financial reports; perform and provide analysis of current results to prior periods and/or budget; prepare required government reports as directed by the Chief Executive Officer and respond to Inquiries.
Stay current with developments and practice trends in the accounting profession; recommend account policy changes to the Chief Executive Officer.
Prepare daily bank reconciliations for all accounts; verify accuracy of bank statements and resolve questions or problems; maintain integrity of cash balances and cash flow systems.
Responsible for the accuracy of payroll records and Workers' Compensation Board payment records.
Responsible for processing and administering full-cycle payroll, including the timely and accurate payment of employees, the calculation and remittance of source deductions, and related payroll reporting.
Responsible for the proper documentation of purchases through the Purchase Order and Authority for Expenditure processes.
Ensure fixed asset records and control.
Coordinate the year-end review and preparation of schedules and documents for external auditors.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age

Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Business, or another related field
CPA Designation and/or well on their way to becoming designated
