Controller

Diversified Truck Leasing LLC

Reports To: Managing Members

Position Summary

This role oversees all accounting functions, including budgeting, cost accounting, general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and financial reporting.

The Controller is responsible for ensuring the timely computation and payment of taxes, leasehold obligations, and contractual commitments. This position may also oversee management information services and purchasing functions.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Financial Management & Reporting
  • Provide financial analysis for all company shops and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Provide financial analysis with strong emphasis on back-office operations, including Accounts Payable (A/P) and Accounts Receivable (A/R).
  • Forecast and report daily cash positions and anticipate future cash requirements.
  • Maintain accurate account reconciliations and general ledger integrity.
  • Update the accounting system with daily financial transactions.
  • Prepare and oversee all fundamental accounting procedures, including:
  • Financial statement preparation
  • Month-end close processes
  • Journal entries
  • General ledger maintenance
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Supporting schedules for financial statements
  • Processing of payroll
  • Supervise, coordinate, and review reconciliations and analyses of income statement and balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving variances as needed.
  • Coordinate the efficient, timely, and accurate recording and billing of economic transactions.

Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Implement and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company policies.
  • Work directly with external auditors and provide all documentation and information required for audits.
  • Review invoices for proper documentation, coding, and contract approvals.
  • Maintain vendor contracts and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Calculate and ensure timely payment of all tax liabilities and other financial obligations.

Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight
  • Oversee and assume responsibility for all invoicing and billing practices.
  • Maintain all Accounts Payable reports, spreadsheets, and corporate files.
  • Ensure accurate expense coding in accordance with accepted accounting principles.
  • Serve as backup for daily bank deposits when necessary.

Process Improvement & Operations
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities related to accounting and administrative functions.
  • Document and understand the flow of source documents through each accounting subsystem.
  • Develop and implement office procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Prepare periodic operational and financial reports.
  • Provide support to the executive management team on special projects as assigned.

Leadership & Staff Development
  • Supervise the day-to-day accounting and administrative functions of the office.
  • Provide daily leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance management to accounting staff.
  • Plan, assign, direct, coordinate, and evaluate employee work.
  • Partner with Human Resources to develop and maintain job descriptions for all accounting positions.
  • Recruit, train, discipline, and terminate accounting personnel in accordance with company policies and applicable labor laws.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and support professional development initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate statistical and narrative reports.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the Company's Accounting Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Exercise a high degree of independent judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties and special assignments as required.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related accounting software.
  • Above average computer technical experience. Above average in the use of Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and present actionable insights.
  • Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and auditing standards.
  • Strong understanding of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Education & Experience

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of related accounting and financial management experience.

Preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation.
