Full Job Description
Function:

Under direction of the Director of Finance, the Controller will oversee all activities related to full-cycle accounting. The successful candidate thrives in a changing and rapidly growing environment and will be responsible for overseeing all day to day accounting activities. This position will work with the Director of Finance to ensure Klingberg Family Centers, Inc. (Klingberg) has the financial systems, internal controls, and procedures in place to support the programs within Klingberg. A Certified Public Accounting license is preferred. Must be detail oriented, and enjoy hands-on identification and implementation of process changes. This role will report directly to Director of Finance, and is a full-time, in office, exempt position.

Controller Job Responsibilities:

Finance and Accounting Leadership
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Coordinate all audit activity.
  • Analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; monitor progress and changes and keep the Director of Finance and the Vice President of Finance informed of Klingberg's financial status.
  • Assist in the annual budgeting and planning process.
  • Review financials and compare actual results with budgets with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
  • Government, corporate and foundation grant reporting to ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with budgets throughout the grant/funding period.
  • Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with Director of Finance and the Vice President of Finance and Administration; to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
  • Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.

Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for a mature leader with five to ten years of accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning in accounting and audit, followed by experience gathering, evaluating, presenting and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders. They will ideally have experience in a complex nonprofit that has multiple programs.

Specific requirements include:
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to Klingberg's mission; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker.
  • Minimum of a BA; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
  • Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
  • Keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data.
