Full Job Description
The CSE Team Lead mentors, directs, and provides technical guidance to the Bayport POTBA (BLO) Control Systems Engineers and Specialists. The role leads sitewide CSE initiatives and assignments in support of the BLO asset strategy and business objectives. Reporting to the site Technical Manager, this position executes assignments that advance site, department, and team goals and is accountable for the performance of sitewide control systems, including BPCS, SIS, APC, and PCN. The CSE team supports daily operations and collaborates with site technical functions-including process engineering, reliability engineering, and capital projects-as well as corporate networks, peers, vendors, and suppliers to resolve issues and improve site performance.

A Day in the Life

Lead the Bayport POTBA CSE team of Control Systems Engineers and Specialists to deliver business results for the site and drive continuous improvement.

Align the team with corporate and site goals, policies, and procedures by clearly communicating performance expectations and key business drivers.

Establish the CSE team strategy and drive performance against defined metrics and industry benchmarks for APC, DCS, alarm management, and other site initiatives.

Set clear goals and support team member development through MyConnection goals and development plans. Develop team members through ongoing observation, coaching, and constructive feedback.

Develop and manage the group's fixed-cost budget and support the capital long-range planning (LRP) process, as applicable.

Champion a culture of operational and process safety excellence by demonstrating strong safety leadership, engaging the team in site safety rituals, and coordinating participation in incident investigations, PHAs, MOCs, turnarounds, and audits.

Actively engage with LyondellBasell Technical Networks and Technical Knowledge Management (TKM), corporate functions-including Global Engineering, Quality, Technical Service, Chemicals Technical, and Business-and accredited industry organizations.

Partner with operations, reliability, and maintenance counterparts to drive continuous improvement in unit optimization, process safety, reliability, and maintenance execution while balancing tactical priorities with strategic objectives.

Drive revenue enhancement through basic controls, automation, and advanced process control strategies that reduce Lost Profit Opportunities (LPOs), close identified performance gaps, and advance new profit-generating projects, including active participation in the site's Value Enhancement Program (VEP).

Assess control-system risks to site performance and oversee the development of mitigation strategies and long-range plans that support business needs, including cybersecurity and equipment-obsolescence risks.

Provide troubleshooting, problem-solving, and backup operational support, including assuming the technical responsibilities of CSE Engineers or Specialists as needed to balance team workload and priorities.

You Bring This Value

B.S. in Chemical Engineering preferred. B.S in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering are acceptable with sufficient work experience in the field of Process Controls, Process and/or Production Engineering.
Typically, a minimum of 7 years' experience in Petrochemical and/or Refining plant processes with background in Process and/or Production Engineering or Process Controls Engineering.

Strong leadership and organizational skills, self-motivation, and initiative.

Ability to effectively manage the performance of technical employees at varying levels of experience.

Strong interpersonal, coaching, and management skills capable of leading a combined engineering and specialist team to drive technical programs and projects to successful implementation.

Ability to identify and leverage employees' strengths and development opportunities.

Innovative thinking to solve complex issues.

Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate broadly.

Technical skills including:

Process automation computing

Technical understanding of unit processes

IT capability in Microsoft Office Suite

Knowledgeable in controls and engineering fundamentals.

Knowledgeable in OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management including PHA's, HAZOP analysis, MOC and PSSR.

Working knowledge of SIS theory.

Preferred Qualifications

Technical understanding of unit processes.

Proven leadership experience and ability to effectively coordinate and manage personnel to ensure assignments are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with project or program scope.

Experience managing or working with DCS and SIS logic solvers and supporting infrastructure; Honeywell (TDC3000 and Experion) and Schneider Electric (Triconex and Foxboro) experience preferred.
