Job Responsibilities:

Position Summary: The Controls Engineer will provide programming, installation and maintenance to new and existing production equipment. Must be proficient in Siemens PLCs

Job Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned and required.

Evaluate and make recommendation on new and existing equipment updates Troubleshoot programming failures and makes adjustments as necessary Set up new programs, PLC ladder logic, robot interfacing and documentation Implement improvements in cycle time of robotic welding and assemblies Train personnel in the use of robots and PLCs Follow and support Magna Body & Chassis and Magna's operating principles Exemplify a Safety First approach by obeying safety rules and procedures, wear PPE at all times and immediately address all safety concerns. Promote an environment where zero injuries is the expected standard Support quality and environmental policies Support efforts to achieve department and plant goals on Employee Opinion Survey Work with vendors and/or contractors, displaying company's core values

Education and/or Experience:
  • Two or four year degree in mechanical engineering or related field and/or 4 years job related experience


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Solid knowledge of metal stamping, spot welding and assembly processes
  • Proven knowledge of PLCs and programming with the ability to program/teach robots
  • Electrical knowledge (National Electrical Code) and control wiring
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop positive relationships with associates, customers and vendors
  • Intermediate computer skills required
  • Ability to communicate with others, both verbal and written
  • Able to prepare, read, write and interpret reports, instructions, technical procedures, blueprints, diagrams and business correspondence
  • Able to clearly and effectively respond to questions from management and customers
  • Must have good organizational skills
  • Must exhibit high integrity and honesty
  • Ability to effectively and appropriately present information and respond to questions from various groups
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts as appropriate
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions


Physical Demands:

Involves physical activity, which occasionally requires strenuous activity. Involves frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting and reaching.

Environmental Conditions: General factory conditions including exposure to hot, humid conditions.
