Job Title: Content Manager

Division: Marketing

Reports to: Director of Digital Marketing

POSITION SUMMARY

The Content Manager leads written content development for SDTA's owned digital channels, including websites, blogs, email and other digital initiatives. This role manages content workflows from ideation through publishing, oversees third-party contributors and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to plan editorial direction, develop supporting processes and recommend strategies tied to travel, storytelling and content trends. The Content Manager also helps implement SEO, Answer Engine Optimization and Generative Engine Optimization best practices to strengthen SanDiego.org's role as an authoritative resource for San Diego travel planning, while supporting the Communications department on the SDTA writing style guide and providing copy editing support for website, email and advertorial deliverables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Development:
  • Write, edit, and publish content for owned channels and other digital initiatives.
  • Manage written content production workflows including ideation, pre-production and publishing in project management software like Basecamp.
  • Manage any third-party content contributors including content creators, copy editing and publishing partners.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Digital Marketing, Senior Digital Marketing Manager, and Senior Marketing Technology Manager and internal and external stakeholders to develop SOPs and dashboards that combine website analytics, search trends, social listening, newsworthy events and content trends to inform editorial strategy for SDTA's paid, earned and owned programs of work.

SEO/AEO/GEO:
  • Implement SEO best practices are implemented across the website and additional owned channels to support optimal website traffic.
  • Work with the Director of Digital Marketing and Senior Marketing Technology Manager to develop and implement Answer Engine Optimization and Generative Engine Optimization best practices that position SanDiego.org as the authoritative source for San Diego travel planning.

Organizational Support:
  • Collaborate with Communications department on continual development and maintenance of an SDTA writing style guide.
  • Support other departments with copy editing for website and email collateral as needed.
  • In collaboration with Marketing Partnerships, oversee production and execution of advertorial written deliverables across digital channels.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
  • BA/BS in a related field such as journalism, marketing, communications or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum five years of work experience in journalism, public relations, marketing or digital content development required; travel or tourism industry experience a strong plus.
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise content that maintains the San Diego brand voice and SDTA brand standards.
  • Strong understanding of SEO, Answer Engine Optimization and Generative Engine Optimization best practices, with a passion for staying current on digital content trends and implementation opportunities.
  • Experience with content management systems such as Drupal, email platforms such as HubSpot, project management software such as Basecamp, Microsoft 365 Copilot and social media platforms.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated, with experience managing project management and content production workflows, balancing multiple deadlines, adapting as priorities shift and working diplomatically with internal teams, industry partners and stakeholders.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
  • Normal office conditions with extensive computer and phone usage.
  • Able to work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruption.
  • Light physical effort equal to frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed.
  • Must be based in San Diego, CA

The expected annual base pay range for this position is $80,000 to $90,000. We consider many factors in determining base compensation, including position scope, job related knowledge, education, skills, experience, and work location.
