Effective beginning the 2026 - 2027 school year, a vacancy for a Construction Trades Instructor exists within the Student Services Division of the Chester County Intermediate Unit. This position will be located at the Chester County Learning Center in Coatesville, PA.

Qualifications:
  • Possess a valid PDE Vocational I or II certificate or be willing to enroll in a certification program.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the field of carpentry is required.
  • In addition to the minimum PDE certification requirements; candidates should possess relevant industry certifications.
  • Current FBI fingerprints, PA State Police, and Child Abuse clearances, dated within one year.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide quality and rigorous occupational instruction to secondary students to prepare them for a successful career path related to industry.
  • Develop programming and modify curriculum to stay relevant
  • Implement lesson plans and hands-on activities in the content area that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of each student.
  • Support students in learning industry standards.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep accurate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Collaborate with school-based staff on common course planning, integration, and alignment.
  • Develop and maintain a productive Occupational Advisory Committee
  • Consistent and effective program recruitment
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain appropriate professional certificate(s) and licenses as required.
  • Remain current in educational programs related to content area while providing the best educational experience possible for students.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned


Salary Range (2026- 2027 School Year):
  • $62,155 - $89,730 - Instructional I Certification
  • $64,834 - $93,324 - Instructional II Certification
  • $66,195 - $97,616 - Voc II + 15
  • $69,353 - $101,911 - Master's Degree
  • $72,740 - $105,924- Master's + 15
  • $74,415 - $107,845 - Master's + 30

*Placement on the scale is directly based on years of experience and certification level/education level.

Schedule:
  • Monday through Friday; 7.5 hrs per day; 10 months; 194 days per year (year 1)


About the Chester County Learning Center

The Learning Center is a middle school/high school that serves students ages 13-21 with a variety of disabilities that range from developmental to emotional and behavioral concerns. There are 2 main programs within the Learning Center:

Options/Options Plus:
The Options Program works with students experiencing mental health issues who demonstrate an interest and desire to learn but who are reluctant to receive mental health services.

These students are provided the skills to work cooperatively with their peers. They learn to deal with everyday issues at their ability level and the educational staff provides individual attention in support of both academic and behavioral programming.

Students in the Options program may need assistance to develop strategies to help:
  • Manage their behavior
  • Meet learning objectives
  • Maintain emotional stability
  • Accept mental health services
  • Overcome drug and alcohol issues

Career Academy:
The typical day for a Career Academy student is split between a half-day in academic classes and a half-day in their pre-vocational shop program. The Career Academy offers a variety of pre-vocational classroom options, taught by very experienced teachers. Pre-vocational classroom options include culinary, cosmetology, technology, automotive, carpentry, hospitality, horticulture, and exploratory/project shops.
