We are seeking an experienced Bridge Construction Field Engineer to support delivery of the Vincent Thomas Bridge Deck Replacement Project in San Pedro, California. The Vincent Thomas Bridge is a major suspension bridge with a 1,500-foot main span.

This position will serve as one of COWI's on-site engineering representative during deck replacement operations, providing engineering oversight and supporting construction activities to ensure work is performed in accordance with approved construction sequence, means and methods, and design requirements.

This is a unique opportunity to work on a signature bridge rehabilitation project alongside highly experienced bridge engineers and construction professionals while contributing directly to the successful execution of critical infrastructure improvements.

The anticipated duration of this assignment is approximately 16 months, involving night shifts.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Serve as one of COWI's on-site engineering representative during deck replacement operations.
• Review construction activities for compliance with the construction sequence and means and methods developed by COWI.
• Monitor contractor operations and communicate observations, concerns, and recommendations to the project team.
• Participate in geometry verification activities and monitoring of the bridge structure throughout construction.
• Review field conditions and support implementation of engineering solutions during construction.
• Coordinate closely with the Owner, Contractor, and COWI construction engineering team to address technical queries and construction-related issues.
• Evaluate construction progress and identify potential risks that could impact structural integrity, schedule, or safety.
• Support collection, interpretation, and reporting of monitoring and inspection data.
• Maintain detailed field records and communicate site activities through regular reporting.
• Participate in project meetings and assist with the resolution of technical and construction issues.
• Work collaboratively within a rotational engineering coverage model to ensure continuous on-site engineering presence throughout deck replacement operations.

You are an experienced bridge engineer who enjoys working directly in the field and seeing designs successfully implemented during construction. You understand the complexities of heavy civil construction and are experienced in making engineering judgments in a complex construction environment.

You are collaborative, safety-focused, and able to build strong working relationships with contractors, owners, and project stakeholders. Most importantly, you are interested in contributing to a nationally significant bridge project that will leave a lasting impact on California's transportation infrastructure.

On top of that, you will have:

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• An active California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 7+ years experience in heavy civil bridge construction projects.
• Experience working in active construction environments and coordinating with contractors and project stakeholders.
• Solid understanding of bridge construction methods, sequencing, and field operations.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction procedures.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability and willingness to work night shifts and extended work schedules as required by project operations.
• Ability to travel to the project site on a rotational basis for the duration of the assignment.
• Valid driver's license.
• OSHA 10 Certification

Qualifications

• A Master's Degree in Structural Engineering.
• 7+ years experience working on major bridge rehabilitation or bridge replacement projects.
• Experience with suspension bridges or other long-span bridge structures.
• Experience with structural monitoring, instrumentation, or geometry control during construction.
• Experience working on infrastructure projects in the State of California.
• Experience supporting construction engineering services for bridge projects.
• Familiarity with construction-stage structural operations and temporary works considerations.

Base Compensation: The salary range for this position in Los Angeles is $121,600 to $193,800. During field assignments, employees may work up to 72 hours per week, with compensation adjusted accordingly. Final compensation will be determined based on education, experience and qualifications.
