Position Overview

You're an experienced leader in the construction field who excels in delivering projects on time and within budget. You pride yourself on your ability to build relationships with stakeholders and support teams to achieve objectives successfully within technical standards and requirements while promoting a safety mindset in all you do.

As the Construction Services Manager, you'll support our contractor workforce to execute deliverables related to the construction of our natural gas infrastructure, including assessing performance against contractual agreements and FortisBC technical standards. You'll also partner with construction supervisors and collaborate with Operations and stakeholders to ensure work is completed safely in accordance with environmental and quality standards.

In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate with personnel in our Construction department to develop shared roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide leadership in executing tasks supporting our Operations team and project managers.
  • Identify areas of improvement within the Project Management Offices Construction Services group.
  • Support construction supervisors with their responsibilities, including creating development and training plans.
  • Mentor and train construction supervisors and contract oversight teams and participate in the hiring processes.
  • Identify and implement improvements.
  • Oversee contractor incident reviews and identify areas of concern and trends.
  • Lead contractor safety meetings and evaluate contractor key performance indicators.
  • Support contract improvements and development; negotiate with contractors where required.


In year 2, you will:

  • Continue to support project and portfolio execution with stakeholders.
  • Implement improvements identified from your first year.
  • Oversee contractor incident reviews and identify areas of concern and trends.
  • Lead contractor safety meetings and evaluate contractor key performance indicators.
  • Support contract improvements and development; negotiate with contractors where required.


What it takes:

  • An Engineering Technologist diploma in a construction-related field and related experience with natural gas fieldwork, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, preferably with a utility. A trades certificate is an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in supporting partners in delivering project plans and improving processes.
  • Excellent relationship-building and negotiation skills for managing development plans and improving contract processes.
  • An extremely organized and process-oriented approach with an ability to successfully manage multiple projects.
  • Utility (substation, regulating station, transmission, distribution, compression and generation) experience in project construction highly desirable.
