Responsibilities

Full Job Description
The Construction Project Site Superintendent will assist the Attractions Construction Senior Project Manager in overseeing the amusement park attraction construction project within Galaxyland through to completion. This full-time contract role requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a dedicated commitment to safety and quality. The ideal candidate will assist with daily site operations, coordinating with various stakeholders, and ensuring the project adheres to schedules, budgets, and specifications. This role will spend a significant amount of time working overnight and overseeing all aspects of the project development during the closed hours of the park.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Adhering to and enforcing safety protocols and practices on-site including the requirement for safety meetings, audits, and inspections while ensuring that all personnel adhere to OH&S regulations and company safety policies. Preparing and conducting monthly all hands Safety Meeting, collect and log daily toolbox talks, FLHA's and ensure WEM "Good Catch" program compliance.
  • Ensuring all on-site personnel have participated in WEM Site Orientation and bear evidence via a WEM hard hat sticker.
  • Implementing WEM Environmental policies ensuring subcontractors employ practices conducive of sharing the workspace with a daily guest-filled operational theme park.
  • Tracking, recording, signing off on and logging Subcontractor QA/QC, Inspection and Testing Plan (ITP) items ensuring all hold points are observed in the field.
  • Coordinating daily construction activities for the amusement park attraction project within Galaxyland at West Edmonton Mall and ensuring that work is performed in accordance with plans, specifications, budgets, and industry standards.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of detailed project schedules, projecting 6-week construction look ahead and adjusting plans as necessary to address project challenges.
  • Supervising a diverse team of construction professionals, including subcontractors, laborers, and other site personnel. Collaborating with the Project Management Team to continually improve and foster an open, inclusive work environment focused on setting subcontractors up for success.
  • On site conflict resolution, maintaining professional personal conduct through leading by example.
  • Working closely with professional engineers, AEDARSA inspectors, and other required regulatory bodies while fostering a collaborative and productive work environment, promoting best practices and time sensitive results.
  • Conducting regular site inspections to monitor work progress and quality, including overseeing the ongoing, required day and night work.
  • Ensuring that construction meets all safety and design standards while addressing and resolving any issues related to workmanship, materials, or compliance with regulations.
  • Acting as a point of contact for clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders and facilitating clear and effective communication to ensure alignment on project goals and expectations.
  • Ensuring project objectives are achieved on time and in accordance with set budgetary guidelines and targets.
  • Maintaining accurate records of project progress, including daily reports, financials, and any incident reports.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management, with a focus on complex projects such as amusement rides, large-scale commercial, civil, or industrial builds, or similar high-technical projects.
  • Post secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • A comprehensive background in the Carpentry, Mechanical or Concrete Trades are strong assets for the role, with working knowledge of industrial concrete, foundation, pilings and form work and installations essential.
  • Proficiency in construction management techniques and processes with strong organizational and multitasking abilities, and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • A high level of proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Proven track record of leading diverse teams and managing multiple contractors and subcontractors effectively.
  • Proven experience adhering to detailed construction-based budgets and timelines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interface with various stakeholders and convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Relevant certifications such as a PMP or P.Eng. designation are an asset.
  • In-depth understanding of construction methods, materials, and safety practices specific to amusement park rides or unique and large-scale construction projects.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of construction oversight and a strong working knowledge of OH&S requirements and protocols.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
  • This full-time contract position requires flexibility, including the possibility of weekends and holidays to support the Park's 7-day a week operational needs.
  • This position will require availability to oversee significant quantities of work that take place outside of regular park operational hours.
  • This is a salaried position that will depend on experience and qualifications.
  • Must be able to pass a security clearance and an NDA regarding the project specifications is required.
