Michels Power is looking for an experienced Construction Manager to help lead overhead transmission and distribution construction activities throughout Texas. This is an opportunity to work directly with field leadership and project teams delivering the infrastructure necessary to support the continued reliability and growth of the electrical grid.
Position Overview

As a Construction Manager - Transmission & Distribution, you will direct field construction activities supporting overhead transmission and overhead distribution projects primarily throughout Texas. You will provide leadership to Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, subcontractors, and field crews while coordinating the labor, equipment, materials, and resources necessary to deliver work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.

Working closely with Project Managers and Project Engineers, you will help drive field execution by monitoring production, coordinating schedules and resources, managing subcontractor activities, and identifying opportunities to improve productivity and project performance.

Success requires extensive overhead power construction experience, strong field leadership, sound decision-making, and the ability to build effective relationships with crews, customers, unions, subcontractors, and project teams.
Key Responsibilities

• Direct field construction activities for overhead transmission and overhead distribution projects throughout Texas.
• Supervise and assign Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, and field personnel based on project requirements.
• Maintain and promote a strong safety culture while ensuring strict adherence to company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements.
• Coordinate crews, equipment, tools, materials, and subcontractors to support safe and efficient project execution.
• Monitor production, work in progress, schedules, and field performance, implementing corrective actions when necessary.
• Ensure construction activities meet project quality standards, specifications, contractual requirements, and customer expectations.
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with local unions while ensuring applicable labor agreements are followed.
• Train, mentor, and hold field leadership accountable for safety, quality, productivity, teamwork, and overall performance.

What You'll Do

• Lead field execution of overhead transmission line and overhead distribution construction projects throughout Texas.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, General Foremen, and Foremen to develop and maintain executable work plans and construction schedules.
• Plan workforce requirements and coordinate crews, tools, equipment, materials, and other resources to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
• Review production schedules and work-in-progress reporting while monitoring labor productivity and overall project performance.
• Approve pay sheets, daily field reports, and other assigned production documentation.
• Manage subcontractor activities and ensure contractual obligations, safety requirements, quality standards, and schedule commitments are achieved.
• Coordinate material planning and resource availability based on current and upcoming construction activities.
• Assist Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Estimators with project pursuits, constructability reviews, bid development, execution planning, and cost-saving ideas.
• Support the review and approval of as-built information and other required project documentation.
• Assist with project turnover and the assembly of contract closeout documentation.
• Conduct on-the-job training, safety tailgate meetings, field planning discussions, and operational coordination meetings.
• Identify field challenges early and work collaboratively with project leadership to develop practical solutions that protect safety, schedule, quality, productivity, and profitability.

What It Takes

• High school diploma or equivalent and 5-7 years of relevant power construction experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Significant experience in overhead transmission and/or overhead distribution construction.
• Fully qualified tradesperson with strong knowledge of overhead power construction means, methods, equipment, and field operations.
• Demonstrated experience supervising Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, field crews, and subcontractors.
• Strong understanding of overhead transmission and distribution construction, including workforce planning, crew utilization, equipment coordination, material management, production tracking, and field productivity.
• Experience coordinating construction schedules, work plans, crews, tools, and equipment to support efficient field operations.
• Ability to interpret construction plans, project requirements, work packages, schedules, utility standards, and field documentation.
• Experience reviewing production schedules, work-in-progress reports, daily field reports, and labor performance while taking corrective action to support schedule and profitability objectives.
• Experience developing and maintaining productive relationships within union construction environments is preferred.
• Experience supporting project estimating, constructability reviews, project planning, material coordination, as-built documentation, and project closeout activities.
• OSHA 30 or other applicable advanced safety training.
• Competency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong leadership, teamwork, communication, organizational, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to travel extensively and support long-term onsite project assignments primarily throughout Texas, with additional travel to other locations as business needs require.
