This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Construction Manager/Field Engineer for our Cincinnati, OH office. Other locations include Covington, KY. Be involved in projects with our Construction Management Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

The Construction Manager/Field Engineer for the Bridge segment of the Brent Spence Bridge project will serve as a front-line advocate for the BSMT (Owner) while coordinating and collaborating with all project stakeholders, including the Contractor, Designer, and others. This role will ensure timely and effective communication with BSMT construction leads, emphasizing safety, quality, and a "best for the project" approach.
Your Impact
  • Manage and address all aspects of construction administration, including drafting change orders, resolving field issues, interpreting specifications, and communicating with the Contractor
  • Oversee construction oversight, inspection, quality control, material sampling, field/laboratory testing, and quality assurance
  • Facilitate decision-making using real-time project data, review daily reports, and manage/monitor/document/oversee field implementation of RFIs, design changes, and mitigation of contractor non-conformance
  • Utilize project documentation software systems such as AASHTOWare, ProjectSolve, GoFormZ, and Procore for safe, reliable, and actionable data, and to streamline final documentation requirements
  • Conduct weekly and monthly look-ahead meetings with CEI staff after coordination with the Contractor and BSMT
  • Coordinate, lead, and attend all progress meetings as necessary, or as directed
  • Be responsive to schedule and review times, and provide the technical assistance necessary to assure contract requirements are met
  • Function as an intermediary between Contractor and Owner for contentious design-related issues and act as a spokesperson for the Owner in dispute resolution
  • Assist the Owner in defense of project claims and negotiations of contract modifications, including time extensions
  • Coordinate with the EOR for clarifications, interact with the WSP erection engineer, review contractor mix designs, monitor/report on cable stressing operations, observe/spot-check steel rebar placement, and validate pile-driving/caisson lining installations
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study (e.g., Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience directing construction activities and crews in the construction of civil projects
  • Prequalification as a Construction Engineer Level 1/Construction Manager with ODOT for work governed by Ohio Specifications and/or certification as an Engineer-In-Training recognized by the Kentucky State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, with at least two years of engineering experience
  • ACI Level I Certification, Aggregate Sampling Technician, Grade & Drain Level I Technician, Asphalt Field Technician, Structural Inspection Level I, KEPSC-RI qualification, and Work Zone Traffic Control Technician.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand contract documents
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Valid, current Driver's license (or proactive indication to obtain within 3 months)


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bridge and highway construction inspection experience
  • Cable stayed bridge construction experience
