Description

Position: Inspector Level II & Level III

Location: Hauppauge, NY

Reports to: Resident Engineer

General Qualities:

- Has excellent communication and writing skills.

- Possesses thorough knowledge of construction processes.

- Has excellent Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to navigate through company internet-based systems.

- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Must be physically able to perform moderately strenuous tasks which include walking along rough terrain and climbing ladders (low heights).

- Proactive self-starter capable of setting a positive example for the staff.

Technical Responsibilities:

- Perform daily inspection of general highway construction activities in accordance with NYSDOT standards and specifications.

- Monitor and document contractor operations including earthwork, paving, drainage, and roadway elements.

- Ensure compliance with safety standards and project quality control procedures.

- Prepare daily inspection reports, photos, and quantity measurements.

- Communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and project managers to resolve on-site issues.

Preferred Skills:

- NYSDOT project experience is required

- Proven knowledge of general highway construction methods and procedures.

- Strong communication, organization, and reporting skills.

- OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.

- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Requirements

Educational /Professional Experience Required:

- NICET Level II or III in Transportation/Highway Construction (required)

- Or a relevant engineering/construction degree with equivalent field experience.

Physical Requirements:

- This position requires physical ability to perform field inspections

- Ability to work in diverse weather conditions

- Extended periods of standing and walking possibly on uneven or challenging terrains

- Climbing, bending, kneeling

- Working long hours

- Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Professional Development:

- Actively participates in professional development and training and licensing.

Salary:

Inspector II - $53.00/hr. and Inspector III - $62.00/hr.
