Job Description:

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Construction Coordinator & Scheduler to support Asset Integrity program execution and repair services activities for a local client in the Greater Chicago, IL area.

In this role, you will assist in coordinating field execution of repair and construction projects resulting from structural, civil, mechanical, and infrastructure inspections. Working under the direction of the Construction Manager, you will help coordinate contractors, field personnel, materials, schedules, and documentation to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with client expectations.

This position is ideal for an individual with industrial construction or maintenance experience who is looking to expand their leadership responsibilities within a programmatic Asset Integrity and Asset Management environment.

Essential Functions

Field Coordination and Project Support

  • Support day-to-day coordination of repair and construction activities.
  • Assist with planning field activities, access requirements, scheduling, logistics, and work sequencing.
  • Coordinate daily communication between contractors, inspectors, client personnel, and Orbital project teams.
  • Track project progress and communicate field updates, issues, and schedule impacts to the Construction Manager.
  • Support outage and shutdown activities as required.


Repair Execution Coordination

  • Assist with coordinating repair activities resulting from structural and infrastructure inspection findings.
  • Support contractor mobilization, site access, equipment delivery, and material tracking.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, and subcontractor activities to support efficient project execution.
  • Monitor field productivity and communicate potential delays, constraints, or risks.
  • Support development and implementation of repair work packages.


Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain project documentation, schedules, field reports, daily logs, and repair tracking records.
  • Assist with preparation of progress reports and project status updates.
  • Support documentation of field changes, repair completion records, punch lists, and project closeout activities.
  • Coordinate recordkeeping associated with QA/QC reviews and inspections.
  • Support management of digital project and inspection data.


Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Assist with verifying that repair work is completed according to approved drawings, specifications, and work packages.
  • Support field quality inspections and QA/QC documentation requirements.
  • Identify and communicate field quality concerns to project leadership.
  • Promote adherence to Orbital quality standards and client requirements.
  • Assist with project closeout and documentation verification.


Safety and Operational Excellence

  • Promote and support compliance with Orbital and client safety programs.
  • Participate in pre-job planning meetings, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and daily safety briefings.
  • Monitor field activities for compliance with OSHA requirements and site-specific safety procedures.
  • Support documentation of safety observations and corrective actions.
  • Help maintain a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.


Team and Client Support

  • Serve as a liaison between contractors, client personnel, inspectors, and engineering teams.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with client operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel.
  • Support proposal development, estimating activities, and scope verification efforts as requested.
  • Assist in identifying repair opportunities resulting from inspection and engineering projects.
  • Contribute to the continued growth of Orbital's Repair Services and Asset Integrity programs.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of industrial construction, maintenance, repair, or field coordination experience.
  • Experience supporting industrial facilities such as power generation, steel, manufacturing, petroleum, chemical, mining, or related industries.
  • Understanding of industrial construction practices, maintenance operations, and repair execution.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, repair sketches, and construction documents.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience coordinating contractors, crews, materials, and project documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and digital project management tools.
  • Ability to work in active industrial environments and climb, walk, and access elevated structures when required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Asset Integrity, Asset Management, Mechanical Integrity (MI), or Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) programs.
  • Experience with structural steel, concrete, material handling systems, cranes, fall protection systems, or industrial infrastructure repairs.
  • Experience supporting outage or shutdown activities.
  • Familiarity with QA/QC documentation and project closeout processes.
  • Experience with contractor management and field coordination.
  • Familiarity with digital inspection platforms, GIS systems, CMMS platforms, or asset management software.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience working within integrated steel mill environments.


Salary Range:

$75,000 - $100,000 annually (based on experience, qualifications, and location)
