Your Key Responsibilities- Direct, organize, and control all aspects of work related to the administration of medium to large civil contracts of varying complexity.
- Work on moderate to complex problems requiring thorough analysis of situations or data.
- Ensure work on contracts proceeds according to approved plans, contract specifications, tender documents, procedures and quality standards.
- Coordinate your team's inspection activities to ensure conformance with specifications and contract documents.
- Review and prepare recommendations via memo format for clients in response to Requests for Clarification (RFC's), Change Orders, (CO's) Claims, Change Proposals, Requests for Information (RFI's) or Extension of Time Requests (EOT's.)
- Review and issue responses to RFCs in collaboration with the project manager and client.
- Manage progress payment reviews and approvals.
- Review claims before presenting them to the project manager and client.
- Prepare and issue Instruction Notices with collaboration from the project manager and client.
- Monitor staff levels and requirements for your project team and coordinate regularly with the project manager.
- Check contract documents and review design packages for errors and/or omissions and review identified issues with the project manager
- Mentor and coach junior staff.
QualificationsYour Capabilities and Credentials- Strong interpersonal and communications skills with demonstrated experience managing teams.
- Knowledge and understanding of Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS) and Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD).
- Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Environmental Protection Act.
- Knowledge of construction survey and layout.
- Knowledge of construction methods and materials.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, time management, negotiation and conflict resolution, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Experience working with MS Project or Primavera is considered an asset.
- A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
Education and Experience- Experience as a Construction Contract Administrator or equivalent for 5 or more years.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology/Technician.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in MTO or Municipal infrastructure construction.
- Registration as a professional engineer with PEO, or as a technician or technologist with O.A.C.E.T.T.
- Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Designation as determined by OACETT as a Road Construction Senior Inspector (RCSI) or Road Construction Contract Administration (RCCA) is an asset.
- MTO's TLT 131: Advanced Issues Resolution is an asset.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
