Concrete Superintendent - Western Slope / Vail Valley Shaw Construction | Vail, Avon, and surrounding Western Slope projects
Job Summary Shaw is seeking an experienced Concrete Superintendent to lead self-perform concrete operations on large multifamily and mixed-use projects across the Vail Valley and Western Slope, including Vail and Avon. This role oversees mobilization, formwork and lift design coordination, deliveries and logistics, staffing/labor/subcontractor/vendor management, quality control, scheduling, documentation, and closeout - ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and to Shaw's quality standard. Strong vertical concrete experience and hands-on knowledge of post-tension systems are required for this role given the scope of upcoming mountain-market projects.
Duties & Responsibilities- Oversee all aspects of the concrete process - deliveries, formwork, reinforcing, bracing, decking, post-tension, embeds/sleeves, batch supply, and finishing - ensuring adherence to contract documents and building codes
- Proficient knowledge of concrete scopes, methods, and techniques for vertical/high-rise concrete construction
- Read, understand, and follow construction documents across all disciplines, including PT shop drawings and stressing sequences
- Perform concrete and building layout; verify field dimensions
- Manage crew scheduling and sequencing; collaborate with all trades and Shaw's main project scheduling process
- Monitor progress against milestone schedule; identify and resolve delays
- Direct labor production and efficiency; manage site logistics and material/equipment deliveries
- Inspect concrete work daily for code and spec compliance, including PT cable/anchor installation and stressing verification
- Enforce jobsite safety protocols and PPE compliance; run daily huddles and safety meetings
- Document project activity: submittals/shop drawings, RFIs, daily reports, time cards, safety inspections, schedule updates, QA/QC inspections
- Collaborate with the Self-Perform Project Manager on schedule, budget, labor/material/equipment forecasting, and reporting
- Coordinate with the equipment manager for Shaw equipment rental and material storage
- Train and mentor crew members and Shaw team members; resolve crew conflicts and performance issues
Education/Experience- 10 years of building construction experience required
- 5+ years of concrete experience required, with demonstrated vertical and post-tension project experience
- Mountain/resort market project experience a plus, but not required
Skills Required- Strong carpentry and layout skills
- Leadership and thorough knowledge of construction practices, safety regulations, and current building codes
- Working knowledge of construction cost control and basic accounting procedures
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, Procore, and Autodesk
- Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills with clear verbal and written communication
Physical Demands & Work Environment Ability to climb permanent/temporary stairs and ladders, use personnel hoists, and navigate active construction areas. Requires close/peripheral vision and depth perception. Regular use of hands for tools and equipment; ability to sit, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, heights, weather, and moderate-to-loud noise on active jobsites.
Compensation Pay Type: Salary (Exempt) Pay Range: $100,000-$130,000 annually, DOE Additional: Bonus commensurate with individual/company performance; housing assistance available, evaluated individually based on each candidate's situation
