General Definition of Work
The purpose of this position is to create software packages and application deployment methods which includes creating packages for MSI or EXE installers, writing task sequences for OS deployment, and configuring software updates.

This job works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Essential Functions/Duties
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Installs new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with industry standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs.
  • Performs daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media; recovery tapes or disks are created, media is recycled, stored off site as necessary, and is recoverable.
  • Repairs and recovers from hardware or software failures.
  • Applies OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
  • Conducts virtual infrastructure capacity assessments, forecasting, and health appraisals.
  • Performs ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
  • Configures CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
  • Supports and maintains the email server, database and configuration. Provides E-Discovery data when requested.
  • Recommends and assists in determining the priority and scope of projects based on the value, need, funding, and objectives of the City.
  • Mentors and develops assigned staff to enhance performance, knowledge, and responsibility.
  • Assists in the preparation of Division Budget.
  • Research and recommend, innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
  • Four years of Windows Server Operating Systems, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange or related experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
  • A+ Certification and/or a preapproved Microsoft Certification in a current desktop operating system is required within six months of hire.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
