Computational Aerodynamics Researcher
  • Location: Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland
  • Security Clearance: Active Clearance or Eligible to Obtain - U.S. citizenship required
  • Salary: $105,000 - $125,000 Depending on Experience and Education
  • Travel: 5%

Position Summary

SURVICE Engineering is currently seeking a Computational Aerodynamics Researcher to support our Aberdeen Research Operation. You will accelerate your career and become an integral team member within the defense community.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct semi-empirical and computational fluid dynamics simulations to characterize the aerodynamic performance and stability of novel munition concepts.
  • Conduct detailed studies of the complex flow phenomena of Army-relevant munitions across different Mach numbers and flow conditions.
  • These flow phenomena include research areas such as vortex interactions, shock-boundary layer interactions, shock-shock interactions, boundary-layer transition, and turbulence.
  • Develop and run coupled performance simulations with partners in related fields such as heat transfer, flight dynamics, and control.
  • Apply theories, principles and methods related to aerodynamics, flight mechanics, flight control, heat transfer and acoustics to predict and quantify physical behaviors associated with aeroballistic launch and flight.
  • Develop and apply meshing techniques to attain highly accurate CFD results in an efficient way.
    Apply statistical methods and error analysis to assess and quantify data quality.
  • Develop new novel weapon system concepts for improved aeroballistic launch and flight.
  • Identify gaps in experimental and simulation capabilities and identify potential solutions to improve capabilities.
  • Prepare and present presentations and written documents summarizing efforts

Minimum Qualifications of Computational Aerodynamics Researcher
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience. Exceptional candidates with less experience will be considered. Candidates are not required to possess all qualifications; if you possess some of the desired qualifications, please apply.
  • Experience executing basic and applied research to evaluate and characterize the aerothermodynamic behavior of high-speed projectiles.
  • Experience with computational aerodynamic models such as CFD++ or Ansys/Fluent.
