Location: Houston, Hoboken, New York

Our Quantitative and Commodities Center (QCC) is part of EY's Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS) practice. We are a national competency-based solution that provides specialized advisory services to companies with commodity operations and exposure including procurement, power & fuel supply, marketing, trading, risk management. The QCC team is comprised of individuals with deep industry knowledge, technical quantitative skills, and relevant project experience. We assist our clients with analytical support in complex commodity risk topics such as hedging, trading and procurement optimization, market risk management, reporting tools, and complex contract modeling, including energy, environmental, agriculture, metals, and soft commodities.

The opportunity

The QCC team currently has an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Manager. You will serve in a leadership role on our projects, managing project metrics, resourcing, billing, and economics, providing direction to junior members of the team across a range of commodities and commercial projects, and maintaining relationships with senior leadership both at the clients we serve and across broad sections of the EY firms. The candidate will also be expected to bring technical insight into both quantitative and commercial commodity topics faced by our clients, develop and manage business development activities, build relationships within EY, and foster an innovative and collaborative work environment.

You will have the support of a team of quantitative and commodities professionals with significant industry experience, providing opportunities to learn and continue developing quantitative and commercial skills throughout your career at EY. The candidate can also expect to work within other groups in the broader commodities footprint and closely team with other service lines across EY.

Responsibilities

This role requires a combination of technical, financial, commercial, and quantitative knowledge, along with strong communication and presentation skills to deliver specialized work for our clients. You will be focused on the application of quantitative techniques to value complex commodity contracts and will often be required to present technical topics to non-technical audiences.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Using a commercial industry perspective to advise clients on advanced practices, typical industry approaches, market behavior.
  • Lead development of quantitative financial models for commodity and financial contracts, including implementing market factor simulation techniques and a variety of stochastic and numerical methods
  • Using and enhancing proprietary valuation models, including the selection of appropriate inputs and techniques
  • Develop and maintain long-term client relationships and networks
  • Develop relationships across EY and serve as a subject matter expert for other EY teams
  • Presenting, both internally and externally, to senior leadership and enhancing the EY brand by participating in speaking seminars and other brand-enforcing presentation opportunities
  • Providing an active role in mentoring and coaching junior consultants and shepherding their careers as they advance in the firm
  • Delivering client reports describing work performed, considerations, recommendations, and outcomes
  • Problem solving under uncertainty to adapt existing approaches and analytics styles to new commodity, financial, and renewables markets and new client objectives
  • Working across a team and independently with a highly adaptive, flexible approach to solving new problems
  • Demonstrate in-depth technical capabilities and professional knowledge, with the ability to quickly assimilate new knowledge and dispatch existing resources to accomplish goals while preserving project margins
  • Possess good business acumen and remain current on new developments in advisory services capabilities and industry knowledge
  • Managing a book of business to grow the team and grow your own career


Requirements for the role:

  • A bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline such as quantitative finance, mathematics, statistics, financial engineering, engineering, or economics and econometrics
  • Eight or more years of related work experience, including at least four years of people and/or project management experience
  • Strong knowledge in one of R or Python programming language and strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong knowledge of derivatives pricing models and computational finance, such as commodity market factor simulation techniques/methods
  • Experience and a continuing strong interest in financial and commodity markets and related financial instruments
  • Ability to work within a given budget and schedule, and provide results in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team prioritizing multiple tasks, deadlines, and project stakeholders
  • A strong work ethic, strong communications skills, and willingness to embrace new challenges and ideas with a flexible, positive, solution-oriented mindset
  • The flexibility and the willingness to travel occasionally
  • Already possess or ability to complete an approved certification within 2 years of hiring

  • We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $146,700 to $335,100. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $176,000 to $380,800. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
  • Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
