SUMMARY

Mortenson is seeking a Commissioning Manager I to drive and lead project construction and contract administration activities, focusing on successful commissioning, and actively engaging in the delivery of larger, more complex assignments, while planning and conducting work that requires independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and adapting commissioning techniques, procedures, and criteria.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform scope of work technical reviews and provide detailed comments and recommendations
  • Develop commissioning specifications and create commissioning plans, checklists, and tests for collection and control systems
  • Lead field visits, observe commissioning inspections and tests, and provide technical guidance
  • Direct functional performance tests in the field, including creating the project's commissioning plan and schedule
  • Draft technical documents for issue resolutions, lessons learned, and best practices; write issue descriptions, meeting minutes, field reports, and final reports
  • Conduct training sessions, communicate across disciplines for construction coordination, and resolve commissioning issues with contractors
  • Collaborate with the scope team and Project Manager to verify scope intent and criteria; develop and maintain collaborative relationships
  • Lead planning and execution of system tests, including NETA, SCADA, controls, and operations verification of mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and life safety systems; effectively lead internal meetings and manage team performance


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or 10 years of equivalent field experience
  • Minimum six years of construction management or commissioning experience, preferably with an MEP Contractor or Commissioning firm
  • Conceptual knowledge of key construction documents and their relationship to Project Management and Field Executions
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills
  • Expert understanding of how design, construction, start-up, commissioning, and turnover align within the project delivery process
  • Experience with key construction documents and their relationship to Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QA/QC)
  • Understanding of Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and interaction testing and turnover requirements
  • Understanding of applicable design codes, design standards, and specification requirements, and ability to interpret them
  • Proficiency in the commissioning process, L0-L5, and ability to relate construction deliverables to commissioning deliverables
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, project management, and pertinent web applications; strong understanding of data-based commissioning tools like BIM360
  • General understanding of building systems across disciplines and fundamental knowledge in at least one discipline such as HVAC, plumbing/piping, electrical, lighting, instrumentation, and controls, or building envelope systems
  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, including follow-through and constructive feedback
  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels in the organization and project partners
  • Ability to anticipate project work, delegate workload, and balance workload within a team
  • Ability to evaluate risk, schedule impact, and safety for quality and commissioning-related activities
  • Ability to interpret and communicate company policies, fulfill development to closeout responsibilities for complex projects

The base pay range for this role is $125,600 - $188,400. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
