About the role:

The Commercial Loan Portfolio Manager is responsible for supporting the ongoing administration, monitoring, and risk management of PenAir's commercial loan portfolio. This position works closely with Commercial Market Executives, Commercial Lenders, Credit Administration, and Loan Operations to ensure commercial loan relationships are properly monitored and serviced throughout the life of the credit.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Portfolio Administration and Credit Monitoring

  • Manage and monitor an assigned portfolio of commercial loan relationships.
  • Complete annual reviews, interim financial analyses, and portfolio updates within established timelines.
  • Analyze borrower financial statements, tax returns, rent rolls, borrowing base reports, and other financial information.
  • Monitor loan covenant compliance and communicate exceptions to appropriate leadership.
  • Maintain accurate risk ratings and recommend changes when warranted.
  • Identify emerging credit concerns and escalate issues proactively.
  • Track portfolio concentrations, maturities, renewals, and other portfolio metrics.


Credit Analysis and Underwriting Support

  • Prepare credit presentations, annual reviews, and risk assessment reports.
  • Assist with construction loan monitoring, participation loans, and complex commercial relationships as assigned.
  • Support the preparation of reports for the loan committee and executive management.


Risk Management and Compliance

  • Ensure portfolio activities comply with PenAir policies, lending procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with loan review, internal audits, examinations, and regulatory requests.
  • Monitor loan documentation, insurance requirements, collateral exceptions, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, market conditions, and emerging portfolio risks.
  • Support watch-list administration and the monitoring of criticized or classified assets.


Relationship Management

  • Serve as a resource to Commercial Lenders and Treasury Management partners regarding existing portfolio relationships.
  • Participate in member meetings, site visits, and portfolio reviews as appropriate.
  • Develop strong working relationships with borrowers, accountants, attorneys, appraisers, and other third-party professionals.
  • Assist lenders in identifying opportunities to deepen deposit, treasury management, and lending relationships.


Reporting and Process Improvement

  • Prepare recurring portfolio reports for management and the Board of Directors.
  • Assist in the development of concentration reports, risk dashboards, and portfolio trend analyses.
  • Recommend process improvements that enhance efficiency, reporting quality, and risk management effectiveness.
  • Participate in system implementation, workflow enhancement, and strategic initiatives as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience

Five years to eight years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school equivalent to approximately 64 credit hours.

Interpersonal Skills

A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.

Other Skills:

  • Experience analyzing commercial real estate, owner-occupied real estate, investment real estate, construction, and business lending relationships.
  • Experience completing annual reviews, covenant monitoring, portfolio reporting, and risk-rating assessments.
  • Experience working with participation loans, complex borrower structures, and guarantor financial analysis
