SummaryThis role is responsible for managing service technicians, ensuring exceptional customer service, maintaining profitability, and driving operational excellence. The ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on HVAC experience, strong technical troubleshooting abilities, proven leadership skills, and a commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
The Commercial HVAC Service Manager will oversee service operations, mentor and develop technicians, review technical diagnoses, prepare accurate labor and material estimates, manage departmental budgets, and work closely with customers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure successful project and service outcomes.
Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesService Department Leadership
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the HVAC Service Department.
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop service technicians to improve technical skills, productivity, and customer service performance.
- Establish performance expectations and conduct employee evaluations.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for escalated customer concerns.
Operations Management
- Work closely with the Service Coordinator to plan, schedule, and dispatch service calls efficiently.
- Monitor technician productivity, labor utilization, and service performance metrics.
- Ensure service calls are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
- Manage emergency service response and support technicians with complex troubleshooting situations.
- Conduct field visits as needed to support technicians and customers.
Technical Expertise
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC systems including technical, electrical and mechanical issues
- Service equipment including RTUs, chillers, boilers, VAV systems, and split systems
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control schematics
Qualifications:- 10+ years of commercial HVAC experience. 2-5+ years of leadership or management experience.
- Experience with rooftop units, mini splits, electric, boilers, chillers of all brands
- Electric experience and control troubleshooting is a plus
- Troubleshoot and repair commercial HVAC equipment
- Valid KY Journeyman License
- EPA Certification
- OSHA 30 Certification
- Welding or brazing experience preferred
- Valid Driver's License
- Able to pass a background check and drug screen
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with ComputerEase and/or FieldEase software.
- Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and controls.
- Experience managing service agreements and preventive maintenance programs.
- Knowledge of estimating, quoting, and job costing.
- NATE certifications or other advanced HVAC certifications.
- Experience managing commercial and industrial HVAC service operations.
Physical Requirements- Ability to lift 50+ pounds
- Ability to work on rooftops, ladders, and mechanical rooms
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and confined spaces
Schedule: Monday-Friday 7am-4pm (Rotating, on call weekends)
