Commercial Analyst, Major Project

The Commercial Analyst, Major Projects is a key contributor to the financial success of major projects and strategic pursuits. This role oversees comprehensive cost control, forecasting, and commercial analysis throughout the project lifecycle, while also playing a pivotal role in supporting the Business Development team during bid and proposal stages. The Senior Project Controller ensures cost accuracy, financial transparency, and competitive pricing strategies that strengthen the organization's commercial position.

Cost Control & Project Financial Management
• Collaborate with the MP Project Controls team to develop, detailed project cost structures, budgets, and forecasts.
• Collaborate with technical and commercial teams to monitor actuals vs. budget, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actions where applicable.
• Prepare monthly financial reports.
Bid Stage Pricing, Quantification & Business Development Support
• Support the Business Development team by providing cost estimates, pricing models, and financial insights during early stage pursuits.
• Lead cost estimation, quantification, and pricing for bids, proposals, and change requests.
• Collaborate with technical and commercial teams to validate scope, resource needs, and cost drivers.
• Develop pricing strategies aligned with competitiveness, margin targets, and risk appetite.
• Prepare cost breakdowns, rate structures, and pricing templates for submission packages.
• Ensure all bid assumptions, exclusions, and contingencies are clearly documented.
Governance, Compliance & Process Improvement
• Ensure adherence to internal financial controls, project governance, and audit requirements.
• Contribute to the development of standardized cost control tools, templates, and best practices.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance forecasting accuracy and bid quality.
• Participate in project reviews, risk assessments, and lessons learned sessions.
What your experience looks like
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Engineering, or related field; CPA, CFA, PMP, or similar designation is an asset.
• 5-8+ years of experience in project controlling, cost engineering, or financial management in a project based environment (engineering, construction, energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, etc.).
• Demonstrated experience supporting Business Development, bids, tenders, or commercial proposals.
• Strong understanding of project cost structures, WBS development, and financial modelling.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modelling; experience with ERP/project control systems (SAP, Oracle, Primavera, etc.) is preferred.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.

The salary range for this role is between $80K - $90K. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
