Position: Commercial Account Director - Upper Mid-Market, Southwestern Ontario

Employment Type: Permanent

Compensation Details:
  • Business Development 19: Salaries typically range from $112,006 to $149,341 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.
Location:
  • Export Development Canada operates under a hybrid work model, with employees currently required to work from the office two days per week. Effective September 2026, this requirement will increase to three days per week and will be implemented gradually through a phased approach based on employee location. (subject to change).
  • This role can be performed from one of EDC's regional hubs in Kitchener or Mississauga
  • Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.

Team Overview:

The Mid-Market Team is looking for a Commercial Account Director to join our growing team of professionals in the Southwestern Ontario Region.

The Mid-Market Team works alongside some of Ontario's most innovative and ambitious companies, providing strategic financial and advisory solutions that help them scale, expand internationally, and achieve their growth ambitions.

As part of EDC mandate, the team supports Canadian exporters through financing, insurance, market insights, and partnership opportunities that strengthen their global competitiveness. Team members are trusted advisors to business leaders, working on complex and impactful transactions while collaborating with colleagues across EDC and the broader financial ecosystem. It's an environment that offers meaningful client exposure, continuous learning, and the opportunity to contribute directly to the success of Canadian businesses on the world stage.
What you will be doing:
  • Build relationships with medium-sized and large Canadian companies, identifying opportunities to support their growth in Canada and international markets.
  • Proactively develop new business opportunities by researching, qualifying, and engaging prospective clients across a variety of industries.
  • Understand clients' financing, risk management, and growth objectives, and connect them with EDC's solutions, expertise, and network.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of clients by developing account plans, identifying opportunities, and delivering a high level of service.
  • Lead financing, insurance, and advisory opportunities from initial discussions through to successful implementation.
  • Gather and share market intelligence to identify emerging trends, uncover opportunities, and help shape solutions that meet evolving client needs.
  • Collaborate with EDC colleagues, financial institutions, and external partners to deliver comprehensive solutions and create value for clients.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships within your assigned territory and industry sectors.
  • Contribute to regional and national business development initiatives that support EDC's strategic priorities and market coverage objectives.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders, helping them navigate challenges, pursue growth opportunities, and expand their international footprint.
  • Consistently deliver an exceptional client experience and contribute to the success of Canadian exporters and the broader economy.
What we are looking for:
  • Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Commerce, or other relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of business development experience and commercial credit lending experience in international business and/or financial services.
  • Experience in Syndications, Bilateral and M&A transactions.
  • Experience in financing and managing transactions up and down the capital stack.
  • Knowledge of best practices in strategic sales and/or account management.
  • An established network in Southwestern Ontario relevant to EDC's mandate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
What will make you stand out:
  • Bilingualism (English and French).
  • Business development experience in commercial banking.
  • Sales management experience in related industries.
  • Knowledge of bank credit and lending practices.
  • Knowledge of international business practices and international trade.
  • MBA, CITP (Certified International Trade Professional), or CBCA (Commercial Banking & Credit Analyst) designation.
  • Knowledge of private equity-backed company growth strategies and analysis.
