Functional Description :

Davis Defense Group, Inc. (DDG) is actively recruiting Command and Staff College Distance Education Program (CSCDEP) curriculum Subject Matter Experts (SME) to support the U.S. Marine Corps College of Distance Education and Training (CDET) in Quantico Virginia. The positions will support development of onsite and online distance education curriculum for field grade officer Professional Military Education (PME).

DDG is seeking SME support for two courses:
  • Foundations: This course emphasizes two themes - (1) analyzing influential military theorists, the course highlights the effect of theory on current service and joint doctrines, operational approaches or strategy, and how these theories contribute to understanding war. (2) Using selected historical case studies to investigate how militaries innovate and adapt to the ever-changing character of war. The course synthesizes theory, strategy and operational art, and military innovation and adaptation with contemporary joint operations.
  • Joint Operations: This course focuses on the organization and employment of joint forces by using recent historical examples, current joint doctrine, and readings on how joint forces, other government agencies, and international participants interact.

Duties and Responsibilities :
  • Adapt resident CSC curriculum into distance education curriculum, including Joint Professional Military Education Phase I requirements, using the Marine Corps Instructional Systems Design/Systems Approach to Training and Education (MCISD/SATE) curriculum development process (NAVMC 1553.1A).
  • Develop course/lesson objectives using Bloom's revised taxonomy to accomplish resident school educational outcomes.
  • Develop, revise and update digital courseware material, including all assessments, answer and reference keys, and faculty guides and development materials according to CDET's course development schedules.
  • Maintain and manage the master Learning Management Systems (LMS) course sites.
  • Support faculty development (FD): Update and manage LMS course FD site content and monitor the FD site during course execution; Develop and distribute a digital course faculty guide and other faculty tools to support faculty course delivery. Develop recommendations for faculty standards unique to the respective course.
  • Maintain course information content on the CDET web page.
  • Develop and maintain digital assessment-mapping documents to demonstrate appropriate linkages between assessments and specific educational objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Maintain digital files and version control of all courseware, curriculum and assessments to include documents, graphics, readings, electronic media and supporting information for the courses.
  • Answer questions from the field on all aspects of the courses.
  • Conduct Institutional Effectiveness/Institutional Research (IE/IR) analysis: Analyze student performance data; conduct test item analyses for course assessment evaluation; analyze end-of-course comments from students, faculty, commanders and outside stakeholders; prepare and analyze descriptive statistics and graphical displays of End of Course (EOC) survey data; prepare electronic Course Content Review Board (CCRB) reports and recommend curriculum changes to the Dean of Academics.
  • Provide information for accreditation requirements electronically to the Dean of Academic including briefings and self-study for the Process for the Accreditation of Joint Education (PAJE) reviews; and overall SME expertise to the PAJE review team per CJCSI 1800.1 (OPMEP).
  • Attend the annual Joint Faculty Education Conference (JFEC) hosted by the Joint Staff J-7.
  • Participate in annual MCU faculty development sessions and the annual CDET workshop.
  • Teach a minimum of two numbered courses each Academic Year (AY) including one in support of the blended seminar program.

Required Experience :
  • Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) experience (active duty or reserve).
  • Professional Military Education. Intermediate Level School (ILS) graduate (resident or distance education).
  • Faculty experience, preferably with military PME programs/courses.
  • Curriculum development experience.
  • For Foundations: Strong background in military history and theory.
  • For Joint Operations : Experience as part of a Joint staff, international staff, or service or functional component of a joint force.

Desired Experience :
  • Professional Military Education. Top Level School (TLS) graduate.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS, e.g., MOODLE).

Education Requirements :

Master's Degree in Military/Strategic Studies or related field
