Position Summary

Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District is currently recruiting for the following position: Collection System Engineer I or II. Determination of level will be dependent on qualifications of candidate.

Collection System Engineer I

Under close supervision of the Collection System Manager, the Collection System Engineer is a key member of the team responsible for collection system maintenance project coordination and engineering, along with other operational and maintenance related duties, specifically within the collection system. In general, this person provides support to the collection systems manager and maintenance staff to safely, reliably and efficiently complete infrastructure projects, and operate and maintain the district's collection system.

This position will work to identify and address infrastructure and equipment related problems in the collection system, improve maintenance staff experience with equipment upgrades and reliability improvements, perform routine operational duties that apply to the collection system and provide monitoring and locating support for collection system assets.

The person in this role is expected to remain up to date and current on new developments in the field of wastewater and contribute that knowledge during planned infrastructure projects as well as during day-to-day operations. This position will collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to meet standards and guidelines, have a growth mindset to a multi-faceted and mission-driven operation while having a focus on maintaining a positive work culture.

Collection System Engineer II

Under general supervision of the Collection System Manager, the Collection System Engineer is a key member of the team responsible for collection system maintenance project coordination and engineering, along with other operational and maintenance related duties, specifically within the collection system.

In general, this person provides support to the collection systems manager and maintenance staff to safely, reliably and efficiently complete infrastructure projects, and operate and maintain the district's collection system.

Salary Information

Qualifications

Collection System Engineer I Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Registered as an Engineer-In-Training in the State of Wisconsin within 6 months of hiring and the ability to become a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin when all pre-requisites have been met and eligible to do so.

Preferred:

  • Experience in public wastewater conveyance and treatment systems engineering, design and/or construction.

Collection System Engineer II Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Possess a Professional Engineer license in the State of Wisconsin.
  • 5+ years of progressive engineering experience.
  • Wisconsin DNR certified Sanitary Sewer Collection System Operator, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.

Preferred:

  • Experience managing public works infrastructure, wastewater collection, or treatment plant improvement projects of varying scope and complexity.
