This position is 8.0 hours/day for 260 work days per year. It is for the 2026-27 school year. Exempt Administrator contracts start July 1st and run through June 30th of the subsequent year. Compensation will be pro-rated based on hire date.

JOB DESCRIPTION - TEACHER

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Co-Director of Special Education administers the District's Special Education Program and Home/Hospital Instruction. The Co-Director serves the special needs of students receiving services from these programs while complying with Federal, State and District regulations. Responsibilities of the position include the following areas; program planning, budgeting, student placement, curriculum development, regulatory guidance, and staff development and evaluation.

Experience at the secondary level preferred

Reports to and evaluated by: Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning or Designee

Supervises: Educational Staff Associates, special education office staff and building special education support personnel.

INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the District Leadership Team, principals and staff to create a Multi Tiered System of Support
  • Fully implement special education rules and regulations including planning, training, and development following IDEA reauthorization
  • Plan and provide professional development for special education staff and others to support Tiered intervention
  • Develop and implement an assessment system with fidelity checks for special education services
  • Develop plans for assisting buildings to provide a continuum of special education services that lead to inclusive practices and increased achievement
  • Work with families and IEP teams, including principals to implement services and problem solve
  • Work with the assessment coordinator to train and implement alternative assessment procedures
  • Plan and implement Special Education Extended School Year and when necessary, out of district placements
  • Work with middle school, high school, and alternative school administration to plan for and implement transition and post-secondary education
  • Work with Special Program Director to create a referral and intervention process that is aligned with District goals. This includes the blending of funds and providing a continuum of supports
  • Successful iGrants applications, safety net application, audits and Consolidated Program Review
  • Work with District Leadership Team and principals on staffing allocations
  • Participate in the Special Education Directors regional group and additional professional development to remain current and to align special education with District initiatives
  • Work with Special Programs Director to create a strong early childhood foundation, birth to 5 and transition to the next level


ADMINSTRATIVE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise, plan and implement budget, program evaluation and implementation for all students receiving special education. This includes coordination of Child Find, transportation, exchange of confidential information with other school district and public agencies
  • Develop, modify, review and implement policies and procedures for establishing cost effective programs that meet Federal, State and District requirements and guidelines
  • Supervise the maintenance of efficient, appropriate record-keeping, accounting, and regulatory guidance procedures
  • Initiate recruitment, and carry out supervision and evaluation of all direct reports
  • Work closely with other district administrators to coordinate programs and ensure that Federal, State and District regulations are being followed
  • Develop and provide appropriate pre-service programs and training opportunities for personnel in areas of related responsibilities
  • Work closely with Federal, State and Community agencies to ensure that acceptable up-to-date information is available to the district
  • Work closely with parents and parent advisory committees to establish trust and foster positive parent and community relationships
  • Perform other related duties as maybe assigned or required to ensure the effective operations of District programs


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current, valid Washington State Administrator Credential is required
  • Educational administrative experience is required
  • Evidence of successful teaching and/or ESA experience in Special Education with in-depth knowledge/understanding of Federal, State and Special Education laws is required
  • Master degree in Special Education or related field is preferred
  • Evidence of successful supervisory and administrative leadership in special curricula development/implementation is preferred
  • Evidence of skills in working and communicating effectively with a broad spectrum of staff, students, parents and community
  • Evidence of a commitment to the concept that all children can be successful learners
  • Evidence of strong leadership and decision-making skills
