Job DescriptionJob Summary The CNC Programmer - Machinist is responsible for independently producing high-precision machined parts by developing complete manufacturing processes from concept to finished product. This role requires expertise in CNC programming, machining methods, tooling design, and operation of a wide range of CNC and manual machine tools. Working within a precision machine shop environment, the CNC Machinist-Programmer interprets engineering designs, selects the appropriate machining equipment, creates CNC programs, and ensures that all manufactured components meet stringent quality, performance, and inspection requirements. The successful candidate will combine strong technical aptitude, advanced machining knowledge, and meticulous attention to detail to support complex manufacturing needs at Centrus' Technology and Manufacturing Center in Oak Ridge.
What You Will Do As a CNC Programmer-Machinist, you'll transform designs into fully finished precision parts-start to finish. You'll choose the right machining strategies, build the workflow, develop CNC programs, design or build any needed tooling, troubleshoot on the fly, and ensure every part meets exacting quality standards.
You'll set up and run a wide range of CNC and manual equipment-lathes, mills, grinders, EDM, and more-bringing complex components to life with skill, accuracy, and craftsmanship. You will inspect and certify parts using your expertise and keen judgment.
In this role, you'll leverage deep knowledge of the 50+ CNC machines at the Centrus Technology & Manufacturing Center in Oak Ridge. You'll review prints, select the optimal equipment, and design the entire machining process for each part. You will create complete CNC programs for lathes, mills, mill/turn machines, grinders, and EDM, backed by a strong history of developing manufacturing processes across diverse machining environments.
We'd Love to Hear from People With - Associate degree or 3 years hands on machinist experience with milling and 3, 4, and 5 axis machines
- Five years of previous manufacturing programming and machining experience
- Experience with ASME Y14.5
- CAD and CAM experience
A Successful Candidate Brings - Experience in Esprit CAD/CAM software
- CREO Manufacturing software experience
- Familiar with CREO Pro Engineering
- Experience operating within an NQA-1, NAP401.1, or similar quality program
- Strong mathematical and programming skills

Pay: Estimated Starting Base Salary Range: $64,248-$107,080. Centrus considers several factors when extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications. While the posted range reflects the anticipated hiring range for this position, compensation above the range may be considered for candidates with exceptional qualifications and directly relevant experience.
