Full Job Description
The Cloud Software Developer will support NASA's Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Evolution and Development 3 (EED-3) environment, developing and maintaining cloud-based software and infrastructure that enable scientists and students to discover, transform, update, and improve the quality of Earth Science data. The ideal candidate will bring strong AWS, software development, DevOps automation, and infrastructure-as-code experience and will work in a fast-paced Agile environment supporting the NASA Earth data Cloud.
• Develop, operate, maintain, and enhance software and cloud infrastructure supporting the NASA Earthdata Cloud and EOSDIS capabilities.
• Build innovative tools that support the discovery, transformation, updating, and quality improvement of Earth Science data.
• Design and implement scalable cloud solutions using Amazon Web Services (AWS), including networking and serverless services such as Lambda and Step Functions.
• Develop software and scripts using technologies such as Node.js, TypeScript, C++, Bash, Python, and Java within an Agile development environment.
• Automate infrastructure and operational processes using DevOps and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Terraform, and CloudFormation.
• Support high availability, data replication, real-time recovery, issue detection, and alerting for cloud-hosted applications and infrastructure.
• Analyze existing cloud infrastructure and define, plan, communicate, and implement improvement solutions that increase automation, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
• Ensure adherence to operational agreements, response-time commitments, program and NASA standards and requirements, and Section 508 compliance.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with customers, management, and individual contributors across the team.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE REQUIREMENT:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field and at least 3 years of engineering experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience with cloud services in an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) or Platform as a Service (PaaS) environment, including application hosting.
• In-depth knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS), including networking, serverless services, and AWS services used for DevOps management and deployment.
• At least 3 years of programming or scripting experience using Node.js, TypeScript, C++, Bash, Python, Java, or comparable technologies, particularly in an Agile development environment.
• Experience supporting infrastructure and operations with DevOps automation and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Terraform, and CloudFormation.
• Ability to analyze cloud infrastructure and define, plan, communicate, and implement technical improvement solutions.
• Strong interest in automating processes, building software tools, and creating infrastructure-as-code solutions in a DevOps environment.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with customers, all levels of management, and individual contributors.
• Permission to work in the United States and U.S. citizenship.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE:
• Experience with Linux operating systems, Git, Bitbucket, Bamboo, and GitLab.
• Full software development life cycle experience on large or complex n-tier client/server applications.
• AWS Solutions Architect or AWS Developer certification.
• Experience with Jira and Confluence.
• Experience with Agile/SAFe methodology.

Greenbelt, MD/Hybrid Telework - (Must be able to come into the Greenbelt Office several times per week)
