About the Role

Hyland is looking for a visionary and technically deep Cloud Architect to join our engineering organization. In this role, you'll lead the creation and execution of strategic cloud architecture initiatives — driving innovation, setting the standard for cloud excellence, and ensuring the seamless integration of complex cloud solutions across the organization. You'll serve as a trusted advisor and thought leader, partnering with executive stakeholders to shape our long-term cloud strategy while mentoring and elevating the teams around you. Your Role Responsibilities? Here's What You'll Do.
  • Lead the development and execution of cloud strategy, ensuring architectural decisions align with long-term organizational goals; design and oversee the implementation of complex multi-cloud architectures that integrate diverse technologies and services into cohesive, scalable solutions.
  • Establish and enforce architectural standards and best practices; collaborate with executive leadership and stakeholders to define cloud strategy roadmaps and business cases, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Perform advanced risk assessments and develop comprehensive mitigation strategies addressing security, compliance, and operational risks; lead the evaluation and integration of emerging cloud technologies to assess their potential impact and business value.
  • Drive continuous improvement in cloud architecture practices through performance data, industry trends, and stakeholder feedback; manage large-scale cloud transformation projects ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery in accordance with architectural standards.
  • Represent Hyland in industry forums and conferences, sharing thought leadership on cloud architecture and influencing industry practices; operate as a trusted advisor, providing expert consulting services and best practice guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop team members; contribute to the overall growth and quality of the department through knowledge sharing on best practices and market trends; provide feedback to leadership on team capabilities.

Role Essentials
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with 3+ years of experience as a Cloud Architect; mastery in two or more general-purpose programming languages and expert-level understanding of public cloud services, platforms, provisioning, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Mastery with CI/CD software delivery pipelines and build environments; Solution Architect Associate certification or equivalent; excellent software modeling skills covering information, domain, process, state, security, logical, and physical architectural views.
  • Master-level experience in cloud hosting design, design patterns, architecture patterns, and quality attributes; excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely, well-informed decisions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a professional demeanor; demonstrated ability to develop and deliver engaging, informative, and compelling presentations to cross-functional stakeholders including executive leadership.
  • Strong collaboration skills applied across teams and organizational levels; proven ability to establish rapport and gain trust; demonstrated courage to take ownership and accountability; up to 10% travel time required.
What We'd Like to See
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide cloud transformation initiatives, including migration, modernization, and multi-cloud strategy execution.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing cloud architecture standards and practices at an industry level through forums, publications, or speaking engagements.
  • Advanced certifications in one or more public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Google Cloud Professional Architect).
  • Experience mentoring and developing cloud engineering talent, with a track record of raising team capability and overall performance.
  • Proven ability to develop original, business-aligned solutions that translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable strategies for executive audiences.
Pay Transparency

Based on individual states' employment laws, the following details are provided to comply with relevant salary posting requirements: base salary range of $148,000 – $170,000 per year, eligible for benefits and variable compensation.

Responsibilities

· Define technical direction, system architecture, and software architecture for supported programs, including the ownership of non-functional requirements, in alignment with functional requirements, program standards, and enterprise architecture.

· Lead technical designs and provide oversight for design implements and codebase. Ensure application of industry standards and best practices in technical designs and code and system development.

· Collaborate with product management to refine teams’ and/or program backlogs by reviewing business cases, providing estimates, defining architectural enablers, and identifying and addressing implementation risks.

· Collaborate with technical and architectural leadership across teams within a program to ensure that technical designs are in line with the enterprise architecture, and in compliance with product and industry practices and regulations.

· Own the architectural roadmap and actively contribute to the product roadmap in collaboration with program leadership.

· Mentor, coach, train, and provide feedback to other program members. Provide feedback to leadership on technical abilities of team.

· Operate as a trusted advisor to influence and lead the application of standard processes and practices within a program, including backlog refinement, planning, work estimation, solution demos, and software reviews.

· Develop prototypes to evaluate and demonstrate architectural concepts and new technologies for software design.

· Operate as an innovative thought leader. Contribute to the overall growth and quality of the program and its teams through knowledge sharing and coaching on current best practices and market trends for software design.

· Comply with all corporate and departmental privacy and data security policies and practices, including but not limited to, Hyland’s Information Systems Security Policy

Basic Qualifications

· Master’s degree or equivalent experience

· Extensive experience with at least one prominent public cloud provider (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP)

· Extensive experience with prominent infrastructure-as-code technology (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)

· Experience operating software workloads in production

· Experience providing platform services for other internal teams

· Sharp, fast learner with technology curiosity and aptitude

· Experience with continuous software delivery

· Understanding of build environments and delivery pipelines

· Strong oral and written communications skills that demonstrate a professional demeanor and the ability to interact with a variety of cross-functional roles with occasional executive presence

· Strong organizational and time management skills

· Strong collaboration skills, applied successfully within team as well as with all levels of employees in other areas

· Strong ability to coach, mentor, and provide feedback to team members in a timely manner

 

Based on Individual states' employment laws, the following details are to comply with the relevant salary posting requirements: base salary range of $161,000-189,000 and eligible for bonus and benefits.
