Job Description

Summary

The Clinical Solutions Pharmacist manages and supports the overall vision, goals, and objectives for Clinical Programs, Products and Services. This position is responsible for supporting the execution of complex programs and services that include new development and enhancements to existing programs and services from concept through deployment. Responsibilities also include ensuring that clinical programs and services are successful, meet corporate operational excellence criteria, and yield revenue to meet target goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Supports the research, development and implementation of Clinical Programs, Products and Services. Identifies, analyzes, monitors and suggests actions for programs, products and services that materially contribute to the mission of the Clinical Solutions department and the company
  • Manages program conceptualization, design, development, implementation, operations and reporting for approved new and expanded Clinical Programs. Utilizes clinical rules, logic and specifications for identifying clinical opportunities for intervention. Analyzes and delivers program reports
  • Responsible for the execution of one or more simultaneous clinical programs, including programs under development as well as maintenance of business and future enhancements of existing products and services. This may include support for programs intended to improve the quality of pharmacy benefits administration; disease and medication management programs; programs targeting clinical intervention strategies that promote cost savings opportunities and improved health outcomes; programs using analytics tools to help improve quality of care in a cost-effective manner. This position will interface with other areas within the company, including Account Management, Configuration Services, IT, Business Development, Sales and Marketing
  • Provides product management support for assigned programs, products, and services, including but not limited to annual strategic product planning; pricing; sales strategy development and facilitation; product positioning and messaging; marketing material and sales tool development; product training, assessment, and support; RFP support; and product demonstrations
  • Manages operational issues for assigned programs, products, and services.

Education and/or Experience

PharmD and 3+ years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, and 1 year of SME in respective areas

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and a working knowledge of relational databases. Web-based technologies experience. Ability to perform database queries using PL/SQL or Python programming experience is a plus.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Registered Pharmacist in the State of California or equivalent state.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in clinical application of pharmacy practice and a good working knowledge of all types of pharmacy services, with an emphasis on the managed health care environment
  • Prior pharmacy benefits management, formulary management, disease management, or experience in healthcare or managed care environment is required.
  • Previous new product development, product management, and sales/marketing experience is preferred.
  • Programming skills (e.g. Python, SAS, Oracle, etc.) are preferred.
  • General knowledge of finance, including ability to read and understand financial data such as product income statements, ROI analysis, net-present value analysis. Clear track record for achieving goals.
  • Ability to effectively present information both and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers is required.


Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.


  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Mathematical Skills

Work Location

This position works on-site at the San Diego Headquarters or other company location (or from a remote location with management approval based on business requirements). Must provide adequate support to internal clients; be available for regular interactions and coordination of work with other employees, colleagues, clients, or vendors; as well as be available to facilitate effective decisions through collaboration with stakeholders.

Working Hours

This is an exempt level position requiring the incumbent to work the hours required to fully accomplish job responsibilities and meet deadlines for work deliverables. The individual must have the flexibility to work beyond traditional hours and be able to work nights, weekends or on holidays as required. Work hours may be changed from time to time to meet the needs of the business. Typical core business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Travel

This position requires no travel; however, attendance may be required at various local conferences and meetings.
