Trauma ICU Clinical Program Manager CRNP
Advanced Practice Provider Leadership Opportunity

Position Overview

The University of Maryland Medical Center is seeking an experienced Clinical Program Manager CRNP to provide clinical leadership and strategic direction for advanced practice providers within a designated service line. This role offers the opportunity to lead APP practice development, mentor Nurse Practitioners, support program growth, and collaborate with physicians, nursing leaders, and healthcare teams to advance exceptional patient care.

The Clinical Program Manager CRNP serves as a key leader in coordinating comprehensive, patient-centered care while supporting the professional development, clinical excellence, and operational success of the Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants within assigned service lines.
  • Collaborate with medical directors, nursing leadership, and administrative partners to support the growth and advancement of APP programs.
  • Lead initiatives focused on improving patient outcomes, care coordination, patient throughput, early discharge planning, and patient satisfaction.
  • Promote evidence-based clinical practices and support quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of care.
  • Monitor APP competencies, documentation, clinical outcomes, and adherence to departmental and organizational standards.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, orientation, training, and professional development of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement clinical workflows, policies, and procedures that support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for APPs while fostering strong relationships among physicians, nursing teams, and interdisciplinary partners.
  • Analyze quality outcomes and patient feedback to identify opportunities for improvement and implement strategies to enhance care delivery.
  • Support service line goals by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance the patient experience.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required.
  • Current Registered Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Maryland required.
  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner in area of specialty required.
  • Minimum of four years of Nurse Practitioner experience required.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or APP program management experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with experience supporting and developing advanced practice providers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, APPs, patients, and administrative leaders.
  • Ability to promote professionalism, teamwork, and a culture of clinical excellence.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and change management skills.
  • Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice.
  • Ability to provide clinical expertise and leadership for a diverse patient population.

Patient Safety Commitment

The Clinical Program Manager CRNP plays an essential role in promoting a culture of safety by:
  • Identifying and addressing potential risks to patient care.
  • Reporting safety events and near misses through established processes.
  • Supporting initiatives designed to improve patient safety, quality outcomes, and care delivery.

One small recommendation: if this position is open to both CRNPs and PAs, I would avoid putting only CRNP in the title because it may discourage qualified PA leaders from applying. If it is truly CRNP-only, the title above works well. If it is APP-wide, I would suggest Clinical Program Manager - Advanced Practice Providers or Clinical Program Manager CRNP/PA.
