Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Practice RN and Optimization Field Trainer is a clinically experienced professional who serves as a frontline educator and subject matter expert (SME) for assigned service lines within Donation Operations. This role is responsible for delivering, reinforcing, and optimizing clinical training through classroom instruction, fieldbased orientation, and handson coaching in hospital and operational environments.

 

Reporting to the Manager, RN Clinical Practice & Field Training Support, the Clinical Practice RN and Optimization Field Trainer ensures that approved training content, workflows, and clinical practice standards are clearly taught, practiced correctly, and reinforced consistently across Donation Operations staff. The role supports onboarding, role‑based education, competency development, and retraining initiatives, with a strong emphasis on realworld application and operational readiness.

 

The Clinical Practice RN and Optimization Field Trainer does not own curriculum governance but serves as an implementation and delivery expert, ensuring that education translates into confident, compliant performance. This role provides critical feedback from the field to inform continuous improvement of training content and practice guidance.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Service Line Subject Matter Expertise

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for one or more Donation Operations service lines (e.g., Case Development, Hospital Services, Allocation, etc).
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of service‑line specific workflows, decision‑making processes, and regulatory expectations.
  • Support consistent interpretation and execution of clinical practice standards within assigned service lines.
  • Act as a trusted clinical resource for frontline staff, preceptors, and field trainers.

Classroom & Orientation Training Delivery

  • Deliver structured classroom‑based orientation and training for new hires and transitioning staff using approved curricula and materials.
  • Facilitate case‑based learning, scenario discussions, and operational walkthroughs that reflect real‑world donation operations.
  • Adjust instruction methods to meet learner needs while maintaining fidelity to approved content and standards as directed by T&E.
  • Support onboarding programs by reinforcing foundational knowledge, workflows, and expectations.

 

Field‑Based Training & Coaching

  • Provide hands‑on field training and coaching during hospital shifts, case activity, and operational workflows.
  • Support role‑based orientation, precepting, and competency development through observation and guided practice.
  • Reinforce correct execution of workflows, documentation practices, escalation pathways, and communication standards.
  • Provide real‑time feedback to learners to build confidence and competence in clinical decision‑making and operational execution.

 

Competency Support & Validation

  • Support competency assessments by observing practice and validating application of required skills and knowledge.
  • Assist in completion of competency checklists, skills validations, and practice assessments as assigned.
  • Identify learning gaps or performance concerns and communicate findings to the Manager for follow‑up or remediation planning.
  • Ensure training and competency activities are documented accurately and in accordance with organizational requirements.

 

Collaboration & Feedback Loop

  • Work closely with the RN Manager, Clinical Practice & Field Training Support to align field training activities with practice development priorities.
  • Collaborate with Education and Training teams to support consistent delivery of approved curricula and training materials.
  • Provide structured feedback on training effectiveness, learner readiness, and operational challenges observed in the field.
  • Escalate trends, risks, or practice inconsistencies through established channels.

 

Continuous Improvement & Optimization

  • Identify opportunities to optimize training delivery, orientation methods, and field‑based learning experiences.
  • Contribute insights from frontline training experience to inform updates to curricula, job aids, simulations, and competency tools.
  • Support change implementation efforts by reinforcing new or revised training and practice expectations during field engagement.

 

REGULATORY & COMPLIANCE SUPPORT

 

1. Ensure training delivery and observed clinical practices align with:

  • CMS Conditions for Coverage for Organ Procurement Organizations
  • OPTN/UNOS policies and operational requirements
  • FDA regulations
  • Applicable New York State healthcare laws and regulations

2. Support audit readiness by ensuring training activities and competency validation are accurate, complete, and defensible.

3. Immediately escalate observed compliance risks or deviations to the Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Required:

• BSN prepared, Registered Nurse (RN) with a current, unrestricted license• BLS, ACXLS• Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in critical care, emergency medicine, transplantation, or other high acuity hospital based environments

Preferred:

• Experience within an Organ Procurement Organization, transplant program, or donation operations environment.• Experience delivering classroom based training or facilitating adult learning.• Experience supporting clinical education, precepting, orientation, or field based training.

CLINICAL, OPERATIONAL & REGULATORY KNOWLEDGE:

  • Ability to explain complex clinical concepts clearly to learners with varying levels of experience.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare regulations as they relate to training and practice
  • Awareness of how regulatory requirements translate into daily operational behaviors.
