Position Summary

The Oncology Clinical Manager provides leadership and oversight for a designated patient care area within the Center for Cancer Care. Reporting to the Director, this role is responsible for the daily clinical, operational, and personnel management of the department. The Clinical Manager partners with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered oncology care while supporting staff engagement, professional development, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

1. Operational Leadership - Directs and coordinates daily departmental operations in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and values. Identifies operational challenges (e.g., staffing, throughput, resource allocation) and initiates timely corrective actions. Assumes responsibility for the management of the patient care area during assigned shifts and in the absence of the Manager/Director to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes. Mediates and resolves issues involving patients, families, staff, and other departments as needed.

2. Human Resource Management - Partners with the Manager/Director in all aspects of personnel management, including recruitment, hiring, performance evaluation, coaching, corrective action, and termination. Promotes a positive work environment through high-impact communication, visibility, and accountability. Provides ongoing feedback and support to staff to foster professional growth and performance improvement.

3. Clinical Practice & Standards - Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating standards of care for the ED patient population in accordance with current evidence-based nursing practice. Ensures adherence to approved policies, procedures, protocols, and clinical practice guidelines. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to support effective care planning and coordination.

4. Fiscal & Resource Management - Contributes to budget development, manpower planning, and cost-containment strategies. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in the use of supplies, equipment, and staffing resources. Provides input into operational and capital planning to support departmental needs.

5. Education & Staff Development - Supports staff orientation, ongoing education, and competency validation. Coordinates preceptor assignments and ensures effective onboarding of new nursing staff. Participates in identifying educational needs and facilitating professional development opportunities.

6. Organizational Engagement - Participates in departmental, divisional, and organizational committees, meetings, and projects aligned with strategic goals. Supports quality improvement initiatives and contributes to performance metrics, patient safety efforts, and regulatory readiness.

7. All other duties as assigned
