Job Summary
Summary Clinical Leader: The Clinical Leader Participates in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating patient care and developing programs to support clinical care consistent with the mission and goals of Brigham & Women's Faulkner Hospital as well as the requirements of JCAHO and other applicable federal, state, and local regulatory and/or accrediting agencies. Responsibilities include participation in oversight and operation of the patient care area, ensuring quality patient care for patients in the following age groups: adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The Clinical Leader will also ensure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice.

The Endoscopy Triage Clinical Leader collaborates with Nursing, Administrative, and Provider leadership in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating patient care and developing programs to support clinical care consistent with the mission, goals, and professional practice model of Brigham & Women's Faulkner Hospital as well as the requirements of applicable federal, state and local regulatory and/or accrediting agencies. With skills spanning all areas of endoscopy practice, the Clinical Leader will drive the development and use of evidence-based practice, information system structures, and processes to support the highest quality, most efficient patient care. Responsibilities include participation in oversight and operation of the patient care area and ensuring quality care for patients across the lifespan. Central goals of this role are to enhance the productive, meaningful use of information systems, new technology, and practice standards to benefit staff, patients, families, and the organization; strengthen collaboration between all Endoscopy areas, the Brigham Health Endoscopy group, and other hospital units to support optimized patient flow and excellent patient experience. Assists Nursing, Administrative, and Provider leadership in translating the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the hospital and nursing service into effective action and assures the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies evidence-based best practice.

BSN required.
Current Faulkner endoscopy triage experience of at least one year required
MSN or relevant level of clinical expertise in a health-related field preferred.

1. PROVISION OF A SAFE ENVIRONMENT

• Assures compliance with safety standards by assessing staff and patient needs and taking appropriate action.

• Acts as a patient advocate: supports and implements procedures for resolving ethical conflicts and patient rights.

• Staffs appropriately based on census and acuity. Utilizes resources to meet Departments educational needs.

4. COORDINATOR OF INFORMATION
• Assures comprehensive documentation based on unit-specific and hospital-based criteria. Evaluates documentation and follows up with staff
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of hospital information systems by ensuring cross-departmental communication of organizational information.
• Maintains a system for communication with manager and staff of assigned units.
• Meets deadlines for projects and reports.

COLLABORATIVE INTERDISCIPLINARY CARE
• Fosters collaboration of health care team members to provide interdisciplinary patient care.
• Participates in unit, department and/or interdisciplinary committees.
• Role models effective communication, teamwork and mediations as appropriate.

PATIENT/FAMILY EDUCATION
• Supports and facilitates patient/family age appropriate education into orientation, in-services, and continuing education. Develops and implements patient/family teaching protocols and materials if appropriate.

COMPETENCY
• Identifies trends and competency needs of staff based on staff input.
• Supports compliance with hospital, nursing, and unit specific competencies (orientation and annual) by developing a system for monitoring competencies. Coordinates with Nursing Director and staff development to provide method and content for annual competencies.
• Evaluates competency of non-licensed personnel in collaboration with Nursing Director.

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
• Demonstrates knowledge of principles of SEAQ /performance improvement and customer service. Participates in development and implementation of the QI plan for the area.
• Supports and revises patient care based on QI results and current research data.
• Ensures quality assurance in all aspects of patient nursing care.

PATIENT CARE
• Acts as a clinical resource to staff by: Evaluating patient care outcomes based on age-specific needs; Recommending changes in practice based on current research data; Developing and promoting patient care standards
• Assists staff to problem solve and respond to psychosocial needs of patients and families and takes appropriate action.

o Proactively evaluates and communicates with Nurse Director the changing needs of the unit, including staffing requirements.
o Collaborates with Clinical Leaders across Ambulatory and Procedural settings to optimize use of shared resources.
o Collaborates with Nurse Director to staff appropriately based on census and acuity. Utilizes resources to meet Department needs.

3. COLLABORATION
• Collaborates with other members of the unit management and medical staff in developing practice guidelines, competencies, and unit specific procedures. Fosters collaboration of health care team members to provide excellent, innovating interdisciplinary patient care.
