NAME OF PETITIONER: Berkshire Medical Center, Inc.

JOB TITLE: Clinical Lab Scientist/Medical Technologist

WORKSITE ADDRESS: 725 North Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201

WAGE RANGE: $69,368.00 to $108,804.00/year

NUMBER OF HOURS/WEEK: 40 hours/week

REMOTE/TELECOMMUTING POSITION: N/A - 100% onsite.

TRAVEL: N/A

JOB DUTIES:

  • Responsible for performance of clinical laboratory exams, proficient testing, quality control, professional consultation, instrument maintenance of validation, testing management, instructing and evaluating students, and other functions towards the attainment of the hospital and laboratory mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Assist the section supervisory in one of more areas of the laboratory.
  • Responsible for the examination of materials or specimens taken from the human body to provide information for use in the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of a disease or the assessment of a medical condition.
  • Perform clinical laboratory examinations as well as clerical duties as needed primarily in the assigned section of the laboratory. This includes temporary work assignments in the specialties of immunohematology, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and/or serology. Additionally, phlebotomy duties may be assigned as warranted.
  • Operate scientific instruments and perform any required procedure after proper instruction.
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, research, and resolve day-to-day problems that arise.
  • Instruct and evaluate the medical technology students' performance while rotating in the assigned area.
  • Perform quality control to ensure proper functioning of instruments, reagents, and test procedures. Recognize instrument malfunction and out-of-control test results and takes corrective action.
  • Follow appropriate departmental infection control procedures in addition to mandatory infection control education.
  • Attend all annual mandatory education as required.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Medical Technology, Biology, or a related field. 1 year of experience in the job offered or in a related occupation.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must possesses certification as Medical Technologist/Clinical Lab Scientist through ASCP, NCA, or CLIA approved equivalent.
