Position SummaryWilliam James College invites applications for a full-time Director of Field Education & Clinical Training for our Clinical Psychology Doctoral (Psy.D.) Program in Providence, Rhode Island. This role combines administrative leadership over the program's clinical placement operations and setup and management of field placement opportunities across Rhode Island and regional healthcare networks with teaching responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will establish and maintain field site partnerships, oversee administrative compliance and contracts, serve as a liaison for trainee performance, and teach experiential seminar courses for doctoral students in field placements.
Essential FunctionsField Education & Site Partnership Development- Identify, evaluate, and establish formal relationships with local and regional clinical field training sites (hospitals, community mental health centers, forensic facilities, and private practices) aligned with APA accreditation standards.
- Draft, execute, track, and maintain field site contracts, Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), supervisor qualifications, and required documentation.
- Maintain a centralized, secure database of site agreements, student placement evaluations, supervisor credentials, and training site profiles.
Student Placement & Site Liaison- Advise and guide doctoral students through the practicum application, matching, and placement processes.
- Monitor student progress, clinical hours, and competencies across training sites.
- Serve as the primary administrative and clinical liaison between the academic program and site supervisors to resolve trainee performance concerns, site grievances, or supervisory challenges.
- Conduct site visits and evaluations to maintain quality assurance across all affiliated field training locations.
Teaching & Academic Responsibilities- Teach core practicum seminar and field education support courses for doctoral students actively engaged in clinical training.
- Facilitate case presentations, peer supervision models, and discussions on ethics, professional development, and clinical competencies.
- Participate in departmental governance, faculty meetings, student admissions, and program committee work as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the responsibilities and objectives of the position and the mission of the CollegeEducation and Experience - Education: Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited institution.
- Licensure: Current, active, and unencumbered license as a Psychologist in the State of Rhode Island (or eligible for immediate endorsement prior to hire date).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of post-licensure clinical experience.
- Experience with clinical supervision, field training administration, or academic teaching at the graduate level.
- Demonstrated familiarity with APA accreditation standards regarding doctoral field training and competencies.
Preferred Skills & Competencies- Strong organizational and contract-management abilities with acute attention to regulatory documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills for collaborating with external health systems, community partners, faculty, and students.
- Familiarity with the Rhode Island healthcare and mental health ecosystem.

Compensation Range:$TBD annually This range represents the College's good-faith estimate of the compensation for this role. Placement within the range will depend on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. Typically, candidates are hired within the lower to mid-point of the range, with the upper end reserved for individuals who bring significant, directly relevant experience and fully meet or exceed the role's requirements.
