Full Job Description
Responsible for the comprehensive assessment, planning, and implementation of critical respiratory care educational and developmental programs across multiple campuses. This position encompasses the needs of the respiratory staff division-wide, as well as the nursing staff within their base facility, focusing on either adult or neonatal/pediatric population areas per facility needs. Additionally, this role involves ensuring the quality and safety of patient care through performance improvement measures, training department staff members, and managing the utilization of inhaled medical gases and complex therapeutic interventions. In addition, this position assesses learning needs, designs, organizes, implements, and evaluates educational programs that facilitate professional growth, clinical competency, and compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Communicates and implements steps necessary to meet requirements of outside regulatory agencies. Enforces department and hospital policies.
  • Promotes quality patient care and helps to ensure the delivery of safe Respiratory Care.
  • Assists in maintaining high-level of quality in performance of department activities.
  • Plans, develops, schedules, and performs continuing education and completes staff competencies to meet the needs of department personnel division-wide.
  • Ensures that interns/residents/new team members are competent before they provide patient care.
  • Determines an appropriate workload for interns/students/new team members in clinical areas that provide ample learning opportunities and reinforcement of skills.
  • Schedules and effectively communicates intern/student/new team members assignments in advance of clinical activity.
  • Educates interns/residents/new team members to job related duties utilizing a variety of instructional methods to accommodate individual learner's needs.
  • Plans/assists in Annual Competency Skills Evaluations for RT Staff and assists with facility Nursing Education Staff as needed.
  • Oversees the staff tasks for ventilator weaning compliance and outcomes.
  • Keeps abreast of state-of-the-art Respiratory Care equipment; evaluates new equipment; introduces innovative technologies as appropriate.
  • Monitors intern/student/new team members activities while encouraging and facilitating critical thinking.
  • Provides constructive feedback to interns/students/new team members to facilitate learning. Stays current with standards, policies and Standard Operating Procedures, technology and research to help maintain effectiveness as an educator and as a staff resource person.
  • Reviews policies and SOPs. Provides interns/students/new team members and their supervisors with timely and objective evaluations based on observation and documentation.
  • Reviews and revises training materials on an on-going basis. May perform waived and/or non-waived Point of Care Testing.
  • If performing non-waived Point of Care Testing, as defined in AHCA rule 59A-7.034, must have approved competency and documented proof (copy of either diploma or transcript, at the highest level of academic achievement) at the time of AdventHealth non-waived Point of Care training.
