Job Overview

The Clinical Dietitian I provides specialized medical nutrition therapy, comprehensive nutritional assessments, and dietary counseling within the award-winning renal program at Trinitas Regional Medical Center. Operating within our CMS 5-star rated and 5-Diamond Patient Safety designated facilities, this professional serves as an essential member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The role focuses on evaluating the nutritional status of dialysis patients, collaborating with physicians to implement specialized diet plans, educating patients and families, and maintaining a high standard of clinical safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Foods and Nutrition or Dietetics from an accredited institution.
  • Active professional Registration as a Dietitian (RD).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform all core clinical competencies required for specialized renal care.
  • Strong baseline of interpersonal, documentation, and typing skills to manage constant clinical charting and team collaboration.

Preferred:
  • Prior professional experience working in a hospital or medical office setting.
  • Foundational experience working with psychiatric, substance abuse, or complex chronic renal failure patients.

Scheduling Requirements
  • Full-Time (FT) - Day

Essential Functions
  • Nutritional Assessment & Care: Interviews, instructs, and assists patients and their families to fulfill nutritional needs. Completes mandatory nutritional assessments for all newly diagnosed End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients within 30 days of admission in compliance with HCFA and NJ State Health Department regulations.
  • Clinical Collaboration: Evaluates patient nutritional status and provides data-backed recommendations to physicians regarding prescribed diets and modifications.
  • Interdisciplinary Teamwork: Actively participates in cross-departmental teams, interdisciplinary care planning, and medical safety initiatives to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Patient & Staff Education: Conducts structured in-service education programs for the renal staff regarding dialysis nutritional guidelines; coordinates and participates in initial education sessions and follow-ups for THRIVE patients.
  • Continuum of Care: Consults and coordinates care plans with extended care facilities for patients following their outpatient dialysis treatments.
  • Clinical Documentation: Documents all patient interviews, risk values, and nutritional assessments accurately, legibly, and in a timely manner within the electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Patient Safety Competencies: Monitors closely for high-risk food and drug interactions; ensures patients at nutritional risk receive timely assessments and adheres strictly to medical error/risk reporting protocols.
  • Universal S.A.F.E.T.Y Standards: Speaks up for safety, communicates accurately, self-checks tasks using S.T.A.R. (Stop, Think, Act, Review), and maintains a positive, collaborative coaching attitude with team members.
