Full Job Description
Position: Clinical Device Integration Analyst
JOB SUMMARY:
In conjunction with clinical stakeholders, Information Technology (IT) and Information Security Office (ISO), assists with onboarding, performs installation, troubleshooting, documentation, configuration, of hardware, software and networks related to medical devices.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical:
  • Participates in the installation/implementation of medical devices and required provisions such as network , power, mounting.
  • Installs, monitors, troubleshoots, documents, configures, and tests hardware, software, and networks used for integration of medical devices with EMR(s).
  • Analyzes, defines, configures, and tests clinical device data used for transmitting HL7 data to the EMR(s) and DICOM images to PACS in conjuction with Clinical Engineering, IT and ISO.
  • Documents current state of the GHS biomedical device inventory process relating to networked equipment and identifies opportunities for standardization.
  • Identifies and addresses root cause of issue to effectively restore communication between biomedical devices.
  • Develops, utilizes, and enhances the service request and change management standards and processes as it relates to device integration.
  • Maintains and develops current processes relating to compliance and associated documentation within the hospital. This includes but is not limited to collecting MDS2, facilitating the on boarding process as outlined by the hospital and collecting information from vendors.
  • Documents current and future workflows relating to medical device integrations and operation.
  • Provides annual training to HTM staff on medical device security policies.
  • Monitor medical device vulnerability reports from ICS-CERT and other sources, assess the risk and propose mitigation plan to present to hospital ISO.
  • Monitor inventory of medical devices for security updates and ensure all are applied in a timely manner.
  • Recommend configuration standards for hardening new medical devices and work with HTM and IT to implement same.
  • Assists in the completion and continued managmenet of all Device Integration project plan deliverables.

  • Demonstrates cooperative interaction with co-workers and other hospital employees, works collaboratively with other departments to achieve patient care goals.

  • Assists in the facilitation of enterprise wide collaboration with appropriate teams not limited to Clinical Engineering, Facilities, IT, ISO, Vendors, and EMR analysts to support medical devices.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Understanding of and experience with hospital patient care equipment.
  • Understanding of electronic theory and technology.
  • Understanding of and experience with HL7, DICOM, and other protocols.
  • Understanding of clinical data flow into Epic EMR and other systems.
  • Experience integrating multiple clinical devices including monitors, vents, and pumps.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and ability to use basic computer software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, work order tracking, inventory management and databases).
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical principles to non-technical personnel both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Extensive experience working with senior and middle management as well as physicians and other clinicians.
  • Knowledge of biomedical device integration / Imaging architecture used for medical device integration including clinical applications and specialized areas such as Radiology and Anesthesiology. Includes an understanding of associated cybersecurity risks and issues.
  • Experience in project management and change management.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or similar related field. Equivalent experience considered.
  • Eight years Clinical Engineering and/or IT experience preferred in a healthcare environment. Will be familiar with networking infrastructure concepts, and patient monitoring networks. Minimum of 4 years in facilitating the coordination of hardware and software implementations.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ or similar certification desirable.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of vehicular insurance required.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • On call as required
  • Must travel to all Geisinger Health System sites as needed.
  • Minor equipment lifting required.
