Job Posting DescriptionPosition Summary/ Department Summary:The Gail Federici-Smith and Family Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) has a vital role in the care of patients at Boston Children's Benderson Family Heart Center. With 44 beds, our facility is one of the largest and most sophisticated intensive care units in the country that is dedicated solely to the care of critically ill children with acquired and congenital heart conditions.
With decades of experience, our team has the expertise to care for some of the most complex cases in the world, annually caring for more than 1,000 patients who just had cardiac surgery or who need non-surgical treatment for acquired or congenital heart disease. We also treat adults who have developed complications or need further procedures as a result of long-standing or a previously treated congenital heart defect (CHD).
Key Responsibilities: - Planning, organizing and overseeing daily clinical and administrative operations for the designated unit/program/service.
- Preparing staff schedules, performing payroll tasks, requesting and allocating resources.
- Facilitating coordination of care/services to meet patient care and operation requirements.
- Developing, recommending and applying internal standards, policies and procedures to improve quality and cost-effectiveness of patient care.
- Selecting, supervising and evaluating nursing and clinical support personnel.
- Creating and implementing staff education/development programs.
- Leading and participating in hospital, departmental and multidisciplinary programs, committees and special projects.
- Analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems requiring the application of clinical, scientific or technical principles, theories. and concepts and in-depth, cross-functional experienced-based knowledge.
- Strong communication skills in order to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions, or well-developed writing skills.
- 40 hours/week, with potential for day or night shift and weekend coverage.
- On-call 2-3 weeknights per schedule period
Minimum Qualifications Education:- A Bachelor's degree in nursing.
Experience:- Four to five years of nursing experience, including Pediatric Cardiac ICU.
- Staff Nurse II or Staff Nurse III level strongly preferred.
Licensure/ Certifications:- Massachusetts RN Licensure
