Definition of Position:

The RN Nursing Supervisor at Good Shepherd Urgent Care is responsible for directing and supervising nursing services in the clinic while adhering to governmental and regulatory standards. As a valued member of the Good Shepherd team, this role facilitates the development of departmental mission, goals, budgets, policies, procedures, and work standards. The supervisor compiles and analyzes data, prepares statistical reports on departmental performance, and assists management with the urgent care budget. Additionally, this role oversees nursing care essential to the assessment, promotion, maintenance, and restoration of patients' health and wellness.

The RN Nursing Supervisor will support the nursing staff through training, evaluation, and continuous professional development while acting as a clinical resource and providing direct patient care as needed. This position reports directly to the Director of Emergency Services and Urgent Care.

This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented with additional tasks as deemed appropriate by the Director of Emergency Services. The Nursing Supervisor is expected to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in fulfilling any other duties that may be necessary to support the effective operation of the clinic and ensure high-quality patient care.

Essential Job Functions:

Professionalism:

• Represent Good Shepherd Health Care Services (GSHCS) in a professional manner, demonstrating appropriate language, dress, and conduct while interacting with patients, families, physicians, visitors, and staff.
• Actively participate in the Performance Improvement Process, maintaining quality and efficiency standards set by management, while making recommendations for enhancements.
• Engage in activities that promote professional growth and self-development, prioritizing guest relations in all facets of the work environment. Attend relevant in-services, departmental meetings, and training as requested by management.
• Adhere to the GSHCS professional dress code.

Problem Solving and Critical Thinking:

• Identify work-related issues and implement effective solutions as appropriate.
• Maintain clear communication among physicians, clinic staff, and patients to promote understanding and cooperation.
• Resolve communication concerns with patients, family members, and staff, demonstrating empathy and compassion.

Clinical Procedures and Supervision:

• Perform all duties and uphold responsibilities required of clinic nursing staff as a working supervisor.
• Exhibit flexibility by working in urgent care and/or the emergency department based on staffing needs.
• Will work 40 hours per week, Mon-Friday.
• Establish, maintain, and evaluate nursing services, including: a. Accurate documentation of patient information. b. Supporting medical staff in patient and provider communications. c. Facilitating patient-related nursing services, including medical and surgical tasks, immunizations, and treatments. d. Ensuring efficient ordering and stocking of supplies.
• Evaluate the performance of nursing staff through individual monitoring and complete annual competency evaluations.
• The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
• Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position. (reference program education curriculum).
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education

Required: Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program with evidence of ongoing education relevant to nursing management and the specific practice area.

Licenses/ certifications/ registrations

Required: Current RN license in the State of Oregon. Certifications: ACLS, PALS, TNCC

Preferred: Specialization certification desired.

Experience

Required: Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in a clinical setting, with a preference for experience in occupational health or a related field. Experience managing and supervising staff.

Equipment/Tools:

• Proficient in using medical equipment, computer terminals, printers, photocopiers, and patient charts.
• Familiar with insurance regulations and medical terminology.
• Knowledgeable in filing procedures and record documentation.
• Skilled in using various software applications, including Microsoft Word and EPIC electronic health records.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of age-specific, cultural, physical, and psychosocial aspects of patient care.
• Strong mathematical and computational skills; effective therapeutic communication skills.
• Self-motivated, responsible, organized, and a proven role model.

Physical Requirements:

The physical and sensory functions described below are essential to the successful performance of this position. The position requires sufficient auditory ability to detect and respond to various sounds, including patient alarms and verbal communication. Clear and effective communication is essential, as is the ability to interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Visual acuity is necessary for observing patient conditions, reading documentation and monitors, and distinguishing colors for clinical purposes, such as identifying medications or safety indicators. Tactile perception is also important for assessing physical characteristics such as temperature, size, shape, or texture during patient care. Motor coordination is required for reaching, grasping, handling, and performing fine motor tasks necessary for the use of medical equipment and procedures. The position also involves occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling when assisting patients or accessing equipment. Walking and standing are typically continuous throughout the shift. The role requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds independently and involves frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients weighing up to 25 pounds. There may also be occasional lifting or transferring of individuals weighing over 100 pounds, with the expectation that appropriate lifting techniques, mechanical aids, or team assistance will be used to ensure safety. Working Conditions:

This position is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment, such as a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility. While the work setting is protected from outdoor weather conditions, it may be subject to variable indoor temperatures. The role involves frequent exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment, with the expectation that all staff follow appropriate safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

The health care environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring the ability to respond quickly to changing circumstances, including high-pressure or emergency situations. The work setting also involves multiple simultaneous demands and varying levels of noise due to medical equipment, staff activity, and patient needs.
