Position Summary

The Senior Engineer - Site / Drainage provides technical engineering support and responsibility for civil site development and infrastructure scope across assigned projects. The role develops and coordinates engineering deliverables from technical specifications and calculations through requisitioning and on-site delivery, with a focus on site preparation, erosion control, grading, drainage systems, ponds and containment, flood mitigation, roadways, railways, and transportation infrastructure.

The position works closely with other engineering disciplines, procurement, planning, vendors, suppliers, and project teams to ensure technical requirements, quality objectives, HSE expectations, budgets, and schedules are achieved. The Senior Engineer operates with autonomy on assigned scope, supports junior engineers, and provides engineering, contractual, and quality-control surveillance for civil site development and infrastructure activities.

Key Responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities
  • Develop and support civil site development and infrastructure engineering deliverables, including technical specifications, material requisitions, calculations, technical notes, reports, and other project documentation.
  • Perform and coordinate engineering activities for site preparation, erosion control, rough grading, finish grading, underground and surface drainage networks, pond and containment design, flood mitigation, roadways, railways, and transportation infrastructure.
  • Ensure timely and quality preparation of technical specifications, requisitions, calculations, reports, and engineering deliverables in coordination with other disciplines.
  • Verify that contractual technical specifications and project requirements are understood and met by external parties, suppliers, and vendors.
  • Coordinate technical communication with vendors and provide technical follow-up of assigned orders and requisitions.
  • Interpret project requirements and apply sound engineering judgment to assigned civil site and drainage scope.
  • Identify and propose technical alternatives that may provide cost savings, schedule improvements, or energy savings while maintaining project requirements and technical robustness.
  • Support construction and site execution by providing engineering input and resolving technical issues related to civil site development and drainage.

Leadership / Management Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and technical support to more junior engineering employees and specialist engineers.
  • Supervise junior specialist engineers when assigned and review work for technical accuracy, quality, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Maintain autonomy and accountability for assigned engineering scope across one or several projects.
  • Report engineering and requisitioning progress to the Lead Discipline Engineer, including potential technical, schedule, or execution concerns.
  • For small requisitions or standard equipment packages, act as the responsible project engineer for technical, contractual, expediting, and inspection activities with support from project and procurement functions as needed.
  • Coordinate with discipline specialist engineers and project support functions, including procurement and planning, to support successful execution.

Compliance / Operational Responsibilities
  • Maintain overall responsibility for engineering, contractual, and quality-control surveillance for assigned civil site development and infrastructure works.
  • Ensure assigned work supports project quality and HSE objectives.
  • Adhere to project priorities and targets for technical robustness, budget, and schedule.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are prepared in accordance with project requirements and applicable technical expectations.
  • Support technical coordination between engineering disciplines to identify and resolve interface issues.
  • Provide construction-site support and incorporate field conditions and execution requirements into engineering decisions where applicable.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Engineering degree.
  • Five (5) to twelve (12) years of experience in the design and execution of projects.
  • Construction-site experience.
  • Professional Engineering registration in Texas and/or Louisiana, or the ability to obtain applicable registration within four (4) months of hire.
  • Fluency in professional English.

Role Specific Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong familiarity with the technical aspects of civil site development and infrastructure engineering, with experience across most areas of the discipline.
  • Experience with site preparation, erosion control, rough and finish grading, drainage works, underground or surface drainage networks, pond and containment design, and flood mitigation.
  • Knowledge of roadway, railway, and transportation infrastructure engineering as applicable to industrial project development.
  • Ability to prepare and coordinate technical specifications, calculations, requisitions, reports, and engineering deliverables.
  • Ability to interface effectively with vendors, suppliers, procurement, planning, construction, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk InfoWorks ICM, Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA), and/or EPA SWMM.
  • Strong technical judgment with the ability to balance technical robustness, quality, HSE, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Ability to support and guide junior engineering personnel while independently managing assigned technical scope.
