Civilian criminal investigators (CCIs) play an important role in the RCMP of today and the future. They work side-by-side with police officers conducting Criminal Code investigations related to cybercrime and financial crime. While civilian criminal investigators have valid security clearance and limited peace officer status, they will not be armed and will not make arrests. Civilian criminal investigators participate actively in investigations by:
• interviewing witnesses, victims and suspects
• obtaining and executing warrants
• participating in site searches
• providing court testimonies

Intent of the process The intent of this process is to staff multiple positions on a indeterminate basis in Calgary, Alberta, and create a pool of qualified candidates. The pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (i.e. indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, assignment and secondment) within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.
Conditions of employment Top Secret security clearance - Enhanced Reliability Status with Top Secret security clearance.
All applicants for positions within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be subject to a thorough security clearance process which includes an interview wherein questions may include (but not limited to), reference checks, previous employment, on-line activities, credit checks, alcohol and/or drug use.
In accordance with the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) Directive on Security Screening, effective January 6, 2025, Canadian citizenship is a requirement for a Top Secret clearance. Please note that while a Top Secret clearance is not required at the time of application, all conditions of employment, including security clearance, must be met prior to appointment and maintained for the duration of employment in the position.

Ability and willingness to travel, sometimes on short notice within Canada or potentially abroad.

Ability and willingness to prepare and testify in a court.
Willingness to attend search warrant sites with investigators (police overwatch).
Willingness and ability to conduct investigations.
Willingness and ability to conduct/participate in interviews (complainant, witness, victim and suspect).
Possess and maintain a valid driver's licence - dependent on region.
You need (essential for the job) Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in accounting, business administration, commerce, finance or some other specialty relevant to the position. (e.g. Law, Economics etc.)
Note: When education is required, candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Possession of a recognized professional accounting designation, such as Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
EX1 - Significant experience* conducting financial analysis involving multiple computations and deriving conclusions regarding those computations.
EX2-Significant experience* in the planning and conduct of at least one of the following: investigations, audits, far-reaching analyses.
EX3 - Significant experience* synthesizing information from multiple sources to identify issues and provide relevant insights, advice or recommendations
EX4- Experience in producing or providing significant contributions towards the preparation of accounting reports
*Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of various related activities which are normally acquired over a period of at least two (2) years"
