Job DescriptionThe Transportation Business Line of AECOM is seeking a creative, motivated and highly talented Civil Engineer to work with our group of civil/transportation engineering professionals in Arlington, VA. Candidate will help in assisting and executing roadway, transit, and civil design projects ranging from large design-builds to boutique urban and transit-oriented projects in the DMV region.
Our Arlington Transportation practice is a multi-discipline practice focused on providing collaborative and holistic solutions to transportation and the built environment. The ability to work with other engineering disciplines at various locations, both internal and external to AECOM is a must. This position involves working with a close-knit team of design professionals where effective communication is an important part of the job.
The successful candidate will serve as a civil/ project engineer on various design projects and will be responsible for:
- Working with Project Managers and discipline leads with engineering tasks and other duties as assigned
- Performing and overseeing the preparation of deliverables such as calculations, drawings, design, and specifications related to roadway/highway design projects and transportation/transit systems
- Guiding junior engineers and providing QA/QC for projects deliverables
- Collaborating with other disciplines to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation analyses or design issues
- Interacting and coordinating regularly with clients and sub consultants in the various assignments
- Understanding trends, best practices, and innovation in the transportation industry and exploring opportunities of implementing them on projects
- Providing assistance in business development activities in providing responses to RFP, RFQ, and SOQ including technical writing, and scope and fee development
QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
- BS Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field plus 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
- Experience with performing roadway, highway, transit and civil engineering design for transportation projects.
- Experience with AutoCAD/Civil3D, OpenRoads, Microstation, Microsoft Office, and other relevant software programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- VDOT, DDOT, NoVA Counties and WMATA project experience
- Knowledge of the Northern Virginia, DC Metro and Maryland markets.
- Experience in proposal preparation and business development
- Experience in implementing design quality assurance and quality control activities.
- Ability to interact regularly and professionally with senior management and technical staff in other offices on business and project execution.
- Ability to lead project tasks and teams
- Motivated self-starter who displays a passion for solving problems, interacting in a team environment, and meeting established deadlines for design projects including design-build, complete streets and transit.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and team-building ability and internal/external networking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities. Proven organization skills and track record in meeting deliverable and deadline requirements.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to present and discuss technical content with clients, regulatory agency staff, and the public.
- Must be self-motivated with the ability to successfully multi-task, perform detail-oriented work, work independently with minimum supervision, and demonstrate effective time management skills.
