Civil/Environmental Engineer - Civil Site Development

SCS Environmental Solutions - Land Engineering

This position will be located at The Energy Center in Birmingham, AL

WORK LOCATION & TRAVEL
• This position will be located in Birmingham, AL. Some relocation assistance may be available if the successful candidate does not already live within a reasonable commute distance.
• This position will require a mix of both field and office work.
• Successful candidates are expected to be in the office or at a field location four days per week and can work remotely the remaining day of the week.
• This position will require some travel, approximately 25%.

JOB SUMMARY

The position will be responsible for preparing drawings and design documents including site grading plans, stormwater design, erosion control plans, technical specifications, stormwater calculations, project schedule preparation, and construction quantity estimates for various types of site development projects in support of the operating companies within the Southern Company footprint. This position will require the ability to travel to construction sites before, during and after the construction phase to provide construction support from an engineering perspective related to site development.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required.

o BS Civil or Environmental Engineering is highly desired.
• Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain license within twelve (12) months is highly desired.

Experience:
• Minimum four (4) years in site development and design is required.
• Experience in site development and design that includes grading plan design, stormwater experience management and design, and erosion control planning and design associated with preparing site development drawings and construction documents.
• Experience and solid understanding in using AutoCAD Civil 3D, or other similar software, for producing grading plans, site development construction drawings and other sitework related drawings and designs.
• Experience and solid understanding in stormwater design using AutoCAD SSA (Storm and Sanitary Analysis), Hydraflow Hydrographs, Hydraflow Express, HY-8, or other similar stormwater management software for stormwater systems that may include culverts, pipe systems, and detention pond facilities.
• Experience and solid understanding of erosion control design. Knowledge of the requirements for the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Alabama Department of Environmental Management, and Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality for preparing erosion control plans.
• Ability to assist in preparing construction quantity estimates and prepare project schedules for site development related projects.
• Ability to successfully and independently lead, manage, and coordinate site development related tasks in support of multiple projects simultaneously.

• Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team environment. Must be organized, show initiative, have strong verbal and written skills, be able to work well with others to reach a common goal, open to feedback, and be willing to proactively coordinate with other design disciplines and act as a discipline lead to resolve engineering related issues.
• Ability to work well with a broader team to achieve project results.
• Strong AutoCAD Civil 3D and Autodesk SSA and/or Hydraflow skills.
• Strong work ethic.
• Self-motivated team player.
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office products.
