This role is ideal for a transportation civil engineer with hands-on experience supporting DOT, rail, and large-scale infrastructure programs from design through construction.
This role offers hands-on technical responsibility and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams on high-profile transportation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Support the planning, design, and construction delivery of transportation infrastructure projects, including rail, tunnel, bridge, and ancillary facilities
- Perform civil engineering design and technical support for rail corridors, tunnel structures, bridges, concrete structures, and supporting transportation infrastructure
- Assist with engineering tasks across multiple work packages, supporting efficient execution of large, multi-disciplinary transportation projects
- Prepare, review, and coordinate design documents, calculations, and technical reports in compliance with NJDOT, AASHTO, FRA, and applicable regulations
- Collaborate with structural, rail, tunnel, geotechnical, and construction teams to support integrated design and constructability
- Provide construction phase engineering support, including RFIs, shop drawing reviews, contractor coordination, and field support
- Participate in site visits and field inspections to verify compliance with design intent, contract documents, and safety requirements
- Coordinate with transportation agencies, contractors, inspectors, and stakeholders to resolve design and construction issues
- Assist with project schedules, budgets, documentation, and quality control activities
- Promote safety standards, QA/QC procedures, and continuous improvement practices across all infrastructure projects
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- 5-8 years of professional civil engineering experience in transportation, rail, tunnel, bridge, or large-scale infrastructure projects
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Experience supporting rail infrastructure, tunnel construction, bridge projects, or complex transportation programs
- Working knowledge of NJDOT, AASHTO, FRA, and applicable federal and state design standards
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and related civil engineering design software
- Experience working with state DOTs, rail agencies, or major transportation authorities preferred
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
