Position Overview

Woolpert is seeking a Bridge Design Engineer to join our growing Transportation team in one of our Florida locations. As a bridge engineer, you will be involved in diverse transportation projects spanning multiple locations, clients, complexity, and size. In addition to steel and concrete bridges, you will be exposed to work involving retaining walls, culverts, and other unique specialties, including pedestrian timber suspension bridges and covered bridge rehabilitations. Given the wide range of markets within Woolpert, our engineers often collaborate with disciplines outside of the transportation group, providing structural design support for our Energy, Aviation, and Water Resources practices.

We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located.

What You Will Do:
  • Work as part of a diverse team of Licensed Professionals, EITs, and interns to complete bridge and other transportation tasks.
  • Lead and perform design for various aspects of bridge, retaining wall, and culvert design.
  • Prepare project analyses, load ratings, structure type studies, construction plans, and reports related to infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of engineering principles and ability to complete design and analysis calculations.
  • Review or check design calculations, engineering estimates, and plans developed by others.
  • Perform hydraulic studies in relation to bridge design development.
  • Provide mentorship and support to other engineers.

What You Will Bring:
  • Must be ABET Accredited
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience with understanding of bridge design and engineering principles.
  • Florida PE License (or can be obtained within 6 months of employment).
  • Experience in steel and concrete design.
  • Experience with bridge analysis software (OpenBridge Designer, finite element modeling, line girder analysis).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and report writing ability.
  • Florida is an emerging territory for Woolpert transportation; therefore, the ability to work autonomously is required. In addition, sales support or industry involvement may be required to assist in growing the region.
  • Ability to work in AutoCAD Civil3D or Bentley MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer.
  • Strong knowledge of Florida DOT and AASHTO design standards.
  • Must be located or willing to relocate to one of the cities listed in the job posting.
