You will be a part of highly creative and efficient multi-disciplinary BIM design team, tasked with designing challenging and complex projects with innovative solutions for Amazon-owned data center facilities. You will provide support to our Design Engineering team through the preparation of Civil models and site designs utilizing Civil 3D. You will influence data center design documents for: campus planning, grading and drainage design, stormwater management, site utilities and building tie-in, pavement design, and site development documentation. You will produce and maintain Civil drawing sets for our fleet of data centers.
Key job responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will include designing the Civil infrastructure of data center sites, utilizing Civil 3D to create and maintain coordinated site/campus models. You must be able to work independently with occasional guidance and work within a team environment to accomplish assigned tasks. This includes working with internal groups as well as external suppliers and consultants, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.
Your duties will include:
- Being self-motivated to work within the BIM Design group and across other teams.
- Preparing and developing detailed Civil 3D models and site layouts, coordinated and aligned with our latest building designs.
- Developing and publishing construction documentation for Civil site and campus designs in a fast-paced environment to meet scheduled deliverables.
- Creating and maintaining regional and global template documents in Civil 3D, coordinated with our team's multidisciplinary Revit models.
- Updating and modifying existing models, studies and construction documents as required.
- Assisting the creation and maintenance of CAD templates and enforcing quality standards across Civil 3D workflows.
- Participating in design coordination meetings with other trades for clash detection and resolution.
- Working on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
- Assisting information exchange processes between internal and external customers in a Common Data Environment (CDE).
- Recording and reporting of key metrics to management.
- Traveling to data center sites for engineering evaluations and surveys as required. On average: once or twice a year.

A day in the life
As a Designer, you will collaborate across disciplines and teams to refine data center designs. Your work includes creating detailed models, drawings, specifications, and prototypes, and updating managers and leaders on changes to the building and site design. You engage in design discussions, review feedback from peers and collaborators, and adjust designs to ensure our data center solutions meet the highest standards of efficiency and quality.
In this role, you'll receive coaching and guidance from experienced managers and leaders who will help develop your technical and professional skills. You'll be expected to proactively seek feedback, participate in regular check-ins, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining open communication with all stakeholders.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of engineering experience
- 4+ years of experience using Civil 3D for producing Civil BIM content, site/campus layouts, and construction drawings
- Direct experience creating workflows that reference Revit into Civil 3D to capture the latest building design updates
- Direct experience creating and maintaining Civil 3D parts, structures, pipe/pressure networks, corridors, and surfaces
- Practical knowledge and understanding of building codes and safety regulations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- Experience designing sites from test-fit through to site permit delivery
- Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers
- Experience and knowledge applying Lean principles to design modeling and drawing production
- Use of the following software tools: Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Dynamo, RF Tools, CTC Tools, Smartsheet, and Procore
- Familiarity with the BIMForum LOD Specification, plus best practices for BIM collaboration
